Posts: 818Posted 16 years ago #So I recently got Reason for my boyfriend and his roomie, then we wanted to figure out how to sample, so last night I figured out you needed ReCycle to do that, so i got ReCycle and learned how to chop the songs and uoload them to reason and assign them on the drum pads, and what not! i was so excited, not that it is the hardest process in the world, but it definitely took me some time! so my point is, now that we know how to sample. im just curious where you guys find your samples from. I know it takes a lot of digging and searching, but I am just interested to see what your guys processes are. I am just searching through youtube looking for oldies samples and trying to look for stuff that isn't so common and played out already. -

Posts: 1,659Posted 16 years ago #i would imagine, not being a digger myself, anything which is obscure and hobbyish is a good bet for samples (my mate has a collection of BBC TV vinyls with all the sound effects on from the 1980s) try old childhood TV shows, public information films (although boards of canada have raided them archives), cult movies with underground followings and records from other countrys, holiday to egypt maybe? lol.

Posts: 1,528Posted 16 years ago #When I was messing around making beats, what I used to do is find stuff people already used and flip it my own way. Lift parts that weren't already used. Even try recreating the beat so you can figure out what the producer originally did. Sometimes you learn tricks that way.

lol well since i am not really talented anywhere else, being a computer nerd is my calling! I have cracked fruity loops and adobe cs4 (am buying the real one soon though) and now this. It took a lot of trial and error, but it was nice to help them out and show them how to sample and what not, i just don't know how to use Reason even though i am curious. Maybe i can be one of the underground female producers:p. I always have beats in my head but they can never come out onto the machine it sucks! -

Well if you have beats in your head and have a steady rhythm (something I lack) the MPC , well at least the Akai that my roomie has is not that hard, its Reason that is killing me =\ My boyfriend completely taught him self how to use fruity loops without help then learned Reason on his own in a few days, even though the program is overwhelmed with stuff, at least the general idea is there. It is a lot of stuff! I definitely give more credit after experiencing it first hand.
