That is just the American way, sports or no sports... BUY BUY BUY
All the different sporting events are over-stocked & over-priced with their food & Drinks most DEF. I guess that is one way of absorbong the cost of those high-ass Athlete Salaries...

I'm a big, big, big PSV Eindhoven supporter, a football/soccer team from here.
But, I also enjoy various other sports.
Talking about those salaries.
The other day, I was watching the season opener Red Sox-Yankees.
My dad got a package, where we can get ESPN, Sport 1, Sport 2 and all the other mostly highly unnecessary channels.
So, they were talking about Alex Rodriguez, and discussing his career and also a bit of his financial situation.
So, I looked him up on Wikipedia and my jaw dropped to the floor when I read that in 2007, he signed a 10-year contract for $275 million!
Unbelievable, there are people dying because they can't afford a basic meal and that guy hits a ball with a stick and gets $275 million, unbelievable.
That just shouldn't be allowed, crazy, crazy world.

That contract wasn't entirely all his fault though. The owner of the Texas Rangers was opening a new ballpark and wanted to sign a star to help fill the seats. He actually outbid himself. I believe the market at the time had A-Rod at $175 million over 10 years, but the owner upped it to $275 million.
Insane amounts of money, yes! But you really can't fault athletes for signing these contracts. The owner dish out the money because they know having A-Rod on the team puts fans in the seats (expensive ones at that). A-Rod sells jerseys, t-shirts and all kinds of merchandise by being associated with whatever team.
It's like when Michael Jordan was signing $30 million a year contracts with the Bulls before he retired. A lot of money for one player but he generated maybe 10x's that for the Bulls ownership. Ticket sales, concession sales, merchandise sales, brand recognition, etc.
it's just one of those things where you have to spend money to make money. -

The only thing that I can see stopping the insanity is the fans boycotting in defiance! Honestly though, I don't think that I could go without my Baseball fix during the spring/summer/fall. -

then in the fall when la liga and the premier league start check it out, man you guys have the best soccer bar in the world in chicago called the globe pub in wrigleyville , go there! they play every game from every league all week, and tons of draft beers and awesome glasses, service, and food, and the waitresses were fine too, and a ton of soccer stars stop in there from time to time
I like how all your teams are from where you guys are from, i wish it was like that for me, but memphis doesn't have a good sports franchise, the grizzlies didn't do too bad this year but they didn't get anywhere important so it's hard to watch them
i'm def not a fairweather fan though, i just want to put that out there, i take sports pretty seriously and have loved all the teams i support for a long time circa little 3 year old kyle haha , even manchester united, i was watching them when they had eric cantona and giggs was young, and i'm a huge dodgers fan because all my family is from cali and my gpa really wants the dodgers to win a title before he passes away, doesn't look like this year will be their year though
