Posts: 1,427Posted 16 years ago #I saw busdriver this last weekend at soundset....pretty different style of hip hop....bought a few of his records..got em signed. not sure how i feel about his stuff yet....i think i can dig it! any thoughts? -

Posts: 1,879Posted 16 years ago #He has an amazing gift that is undisputable, but to be able to sit through a whole listening session of one his albums... that is a hard task for me. idk what his motivation is but, to rap fast just for the sake of rapping fast gets boring. He's mad talented though, I wish he'd slow it down here & there...

good lookin' out man, just heard this and it is very nice. THCx for not spoiling it... he def did it justice! i love that Myka sings in his songs, reminds me so much of FF... -

Seriously, can't stand that sh!t, the beats there is no soul in them, that sh!t is not hip hop to me.
I remember he was one of the guys performing before PUTS. Never have I heard worse hip hop. -

Seconded. Busdriver is legit, guy can flow like no other, chill beats. He was part of the good life crew too.
Btw, what is hip hop to you then? Not tryna be defensive, just curious. -

I agree somewhat. There comes a point when an emcee's "technicalness" becomes their drawback. As dope as artists like Busdriver are at writing and even reciting their rhymes, most of the time that stuff is not very listenable. It gets to the point where the "style" of how the words are rapped has overtaken what the music and words should actually be...a song. Same with Myka Nyne. He just sounds off beat most of the time. If you compare him to Aceyalone and Abstract Rude on Haiku d'Etat or any song with the three of them, he just seems out of place. The exception is "Mike, Arron and Eddie" though.
A good example of a "technical" emcee that makes good songs is 2Mex. He can extend a pattern out ridiculously but that sh!t bumps too! Gift of Gab is dope that way too. -

What forum we in? LOL. Real hip-hop to me is the P, also a huge M.O.P. fan. I love the hardcore & chill hip hop if you can do it well.
Even Thes said it in one of his rants, I'm not hating if you like him, but those beats all sound like something you get off the computer. No samples or anything.
Sweetness61686 come on man, really you think I don't like Busdriver because I can't open my mind? I think if your a P fan you have a fairly high musical intelligence, but just because someone makes something differently, it isn't always good. The Roots style is different than most & so is Ghostface if you listen to him rap but unlike Busdriver I actually think they make good music.
It's all opinions at the end of the day, but for my money I've been to few shows with an act as bad as Busdriver. Just my .02
