Posted 16 years ago #Ok, so I know there are probably tons and tons of threads, or posts, about other hip hop or underground artists.. but I just want one thread that is dedicated to posting up underground artists. I am truly trying to expand my collection and I get stuck looking for people sometimes. So everyone, post up artists and at least ONE song you would recommend to get us started. Also maybe say who it could be compared to/ what kind of hip hop. etc..
(you may have heard these artists before but I am just posting who I know and like)
I.E.
Panacea- These words, sunburst, the scenic route
Zion I: antenna, boom bip, next to u, innerlight, one.. he is amazing!
The grouch: yardwork, never die, show you the world.
The grouch and eligh: Picture this, river runs dry, hallways and doors
Zion I and the grouch: Silly puddy, moves that make me, digital dirt, etc.
Strange Fruit Project: Making my way, oxygen, all the way, special (9th wonder beat)
Restoring poetry in music- Poetron, sleep walkers, poetry bum
Santogold- LES artistes, starstruckk
Living Legends- Flawless, damn it feels good, rabbit hole, never falling......... all really good songs...
fat jon the ample soul physician- (instrumentals that are hella dope, if you like Nujabes, Nomak then check him out) darkness, tranquelizer
9th wonder- (They produce and have some good instrumentals): The rain
The Foreign exchange: the answer, happiness, alright
All the music i recommended is pretty chill ass hip hop. Its deep, its relaxing, very much reflects my personality.[/b] -

Search for "emesbe" on iTunes and the album is called "effective communication" You can buy it if you're so inclined or I can send a downloadable link via PM. For those that remember, me and forum member Boneunit made a track on there called "Make'em Clap" He goes by the stage name "Renessis" and is on iTunes too. -

Posted 16 years ago #Common Market - everything in their repertoire, but I'll name a few dope ones, for you to start with.
- Bonanza
- Escaping Arkham
- Winter Takes All
- Tobacco Road
- Slow Cure
- Push
- Re Fresh
- Succor MC's
- Connect For
- Black Patch War
Albums: Tobacco Road, Common Market, Black Patch War EP, Winter's End EP
Blue Scholars:
- Bayani
- La Botella
- Southside Revival
- Joe Metro
- Back Home
- Loyalty
- 50 Thousand Deep
- Morning Of America
Just check out, their The Long March EP, Bayani album and Blue Scholars album
Blue Scholars & Common Market, both out of Seattle.
Blue Scholars are the more well known, but both are very, very, very dope
(Up there, with the best in the game)
They have the same producer: Sabzi, so not a lot of difference there: soulful beats most of the time.
But I just prefer the MC from Common Market: RA Scion (he's one of the best ever, real nice flow with some mindblowing lyrics)
Geologic, Blue Scholar's MC is also real, real dope but I just prefer RA.
Check this out about RA Scion, very worth the watch:
CYNE:
- 400 Years
- Samura's Optic
- First Person
- Steady
- Self Exam
- Feather Ft. Nujabes
- Running Water
- Haze
- Moonlight
- Tragic
- Out Of Time
- Your Voice
- One Day
- Pretty Apollo
- Tide Of Life
- This Year
- Maintain
- Starship Utopia
CYNE quite well known, within the community, you might have heard of them.
Pretty much everything they did too.
Albums: Time Being, Water For Mars, Evolution Fight, Pretty Dark Things, Starship Utopia, Collection (1999-2003), and a couple of small EPs
The Loyalists:
Albums: Redemption, Get What You Give, Moodswing
Not so well known, very dope, skillfull MC, same goes for the producer
Shad:
Albums: When This Is Over, The Old Prince, TSOL
Real, real dope dude from Canada, definitely check him out too, you'll regret if you don't
Might have heard of him though, he is pretty well known, within the community.
Maybe post some more up later, but these are definitely ones you should check out, if you haven't already. -
