Hey Everyone! I wanted to make sure y'all know about the Interview that Peter Agoston/Culturama from IG and our Forum just released. He does a Podcast called The House List and he interviewed Thes One for his 50th show. Peter knows Mike and Chris personally and has a intimate connection with PUTS and the underground "scene" in general I'd say. Here is the quote from his post on IG:

Culturama » Today I posted our 50th episode of The House List, the first time I ever went to Los Angeles back in the 90s, I crashed on this guys couch. Actually, I slept in my car the first night, then his couch. Since then I've had court-side seats for him and his partner Mike's journey on every album they've released - Chris Portugal, Thes One of People Under The Stairs. It's a fantastic conversation....Now, I gab about this in the show's intro but when I got sick in 2014, I spent a lot of time in a hospital bed unable to move, see or do much of anything. So eventually I started listening to podcasts so other people's conversations/lives could help me pass the time and distract my mind. This carried on thru the countless lonely hours in dialysis (Shout out to Steve at Irving Place) and later when I was able to walk again. When I decided to try and produce my own - it was a way to see old friends I might not otherwise and people I think are cool. The social life of a booking agent can disappear very suddenly once you aren't of use to a client / manager anymore, so My social circle was only my very closest loved ones, and this damn podcast helped me get re-engaged with people. The self-promotion part is def not my favorite thing, there are more important things going on. But 50 episodes on a no-string-budget is tits IMHO. Shout out to all yall on this thing.

Dope! I was curious when Thes was going to be a guest. Had a chance to meet Peter in Portland and Seattle - awesome dude.

Just finished my listen & I have to say what a great interview so much good stuff. Really nice to hear Thes being so candid & getting the insight into his mindset when it came to the different albums. Can't wait for part 2

Wow awesome. Thanks for the heads up! Can't wait to listen.

Peter Agoston has had a long time connection with the P. There are a bunch of old videos he shot with them in his Culturama series, now somewhere on youtube. Think I posted a thread about them recently...

Man what a great interview, love that they gave a shout-out and dedication to Sactown... He would have absolutely loved the content that they discussed as he was constantly on a mission to figure out all the riddles The P layered in their music, he was the Master P Slueth. (See what I did there? X-D)

Thes is a effing genius and it makes me crazy how he and DubK don't get any recognition from industry peers... The story about Gym Class Heroes is wack though, to have the audacity to bite PUTS show routines while they were opening for them is just blatantly ridiculous. Thes is a nice guy to just let that one go. I remember that tour very well and thinking to myself how we are at a turning point regarding the P's fan base. The hipster/Indie crowd was very prevalent at the SLC show, which is fine by me as they packed the place putting more duckets in the homies' pockets but the respect (or lack of) the crowd had for The P, was generally speaking, blissfully ignorant. These same people were pumped when they would hear some trap-rap come on during the stage change over, I swear that they were more excited for that then the actual show itself...

My respect for the hard work and genuine enjoyment of just making music, regardless of if anyone will ever actually enjoy it, continues to grow for People Under the Stairs. There is something to say about truly sticking with what you enjoy and not ever giving in for that extra $$ or mile. I go through phases of listening to the P but their catalog always provides something to suite my mindset. Thes One humbly stating that at this point it doesn't matter that they haven't gotten the recognition they deserve goes to show you how fame and success isn't the reason why him or Mike ever got into creating music. The experience and stories that PUTS has amassed over the years, through international performances and crate digging, could never be traded or bought. I might be blowing smoke but it seems Thes One and Double K have always found their route. Either by accident, luck, or just for the love of what they were doing. That type of lifestyle could not be conjured in the mainstream music industry. PUTS is organic, a true testament to reality, and an example of what it means to truly be connected with fans. This was an awesome Podcast and I can't wait for part two. *steps off the soapbox

I've been looping that intro of next Step Part I (explains why the 12" was called Next Step Part II). This is supposedly 10 minutes long? Would love to hear this in full. Now I'm wondering what else we've never heard :)

Man, what a great interview. I've always been aware of PA being in the background of The P's career (he was one of the first people to reach out to me when I first set up this website and he schooled me on loads of their history) so it was dope to hear them chat with so much depth into it all.

Like a lot of you there were things they talk about on each album that I was aware of, but didn't realise the full extent of the backstory. Like the WRLA jingles and the female-only scratches on Stepfather etc.

One thing I've heard Thes talk about before but I still don't quite get is why there was such a backlash against OST. I can understand that Stepfather was a departure of sorts but even from a hip hop-purist perspective OST is a great album!! Maybe at that point some people on the LA scene were already annoyed with them for whatever reason and refused to support?!
