Posts: 2Posted 7 years ago #Yo I just listened to the super good House List Podcast with Thes (thanks cutfromabove for the hint) and what he said about the negative effects of vinyl on our environment really made me think man... I decided that yesterday's purchase of the final P album will also be my final purchase of any freshly pressed vinyl whatsoever.
In my case, the distribution side of things is really the icing on the cake: I live in Germany, the records are pressed in Czech Republic (Germany and the Czech Republic are DIRECT neighbours). So my record goes from the Czech pressing plant to LA, just for Thes to repack it and have it sent back to Germany. This is nuts!
So with this album, I say goodbye to both the P and to buying new records. I'm not telling any of you guys to do the same, I just thought this would be a good time and place to testify!

Posts: 29Posted 7 years ago #What a way to go out. Sincerely, The P is amazing and bittersweet. Shed many tears listening to this album. Its crazy to think that this is the end. Started listening back in Florida when "Question In The Form Of Answer" dropped, immediately hunted down "The Next Step" and have been on top of every release since. Ive seen the P live at least 10 times in Chicago, Portland, and Salem collectively over the years. Met my wife in that time and she too has become a die hard fan. Its hard to believe we wont be able to see this album live. I raided the store yesterday. We got Hoodies, shirts, water bottles, Cds,tapes,vinyl. The P has been there for me through so many rough times and good times. I cant be thankful enough to Mike and Chris. So happy to see Sincerely, The P at #1. I will always cherish my PUTS collection. In my heart theres still a glimmer of hope we might get some kind of musical output from Mike and Chris down the road. I wish the best for them. Thank for all the years music..and future years of listening. My son will know The P well :) Salute

A listening session with a couple of the P beers afterwards was real special. The P Army International connection!! I still need to listen a few more times for fully digest the album but there's a lot to take in.
The beat on Hard is tough... Dank!

Posts: 584Posted 7 years ago #Loads to take in & it’s on heavy rotation at the moment. From a music point of view the production is immense. So many layers & perfectly balanced. I think Thes’s flow & lyrics are some of the best i’ve heard & for me he’s just got better & better. The one little negative is on the flip side Double K’s lyrics aren’t as good as i’ve heard. His earlier stuff is great but for the last few releases he’s not been as on point as he used to be & I think the same follows suit on this one. But as a total package it’s awesome!!

But to put things in perspective, OST came out in 2002 - that's 17 years ago. Those guys were 25 then, now they're 40+. From my perspective, Thes' comments back in the day about not using keyboards was about producers who didn't sample at all and were using inbuilt keyboard sounds and effects to make very synthetic pop beats. That is totally a world away from making sample-heavy tracks but with small amounts of live instrumentation on top. OST had Headnodic and KatOno playing bass and keys just as this final album does.
When he said 'we made 6 figures and we drank a lot of beer' I never felt that was boasting or selling out (although bragging about money has been a key trait of hip hop since day one). I think he wanted to say it was stupid to still label them as underground when they were actually successful but really what does that label mean anyway. 'And how is that underground, it really doesnt matter'... They've joked about being "the most successful least successful hip hop group"

It’s all about evolution for me and actually the albums they have put out have always seems to grow with me and my taste. I loved OST but I am a massive Highlighter mark as well. Nothing can stay the same but can always carry the essence of history and I think they have done that from the beginning to the end. But always happy to hear other view points and opinions from the boards.

In the 12SP promo he's still pretty big but I've noticed that he looks skinnier lately. I hope everything is okay, his episode of the house list eluded that he was planning on releasing a solo album.
