I took John Steinbecks:- Of mice and men, away with me as something to read on the plane and when everyone went to bed. TOP book, i remember reading it in school, its not a long book, or complicated, but it really caught my attention and couldnt put it down. Nice n simple!
Check it out if you need a light read!

Really hard to sum it but it's basically a bunch of short stories, written about this dude Mr. Palomar, and his quest for meaning in the universe through observation and knowledge of everything. All sorts of paradoxes, lots of discussion on meaning and meaninglessness. Really interesting. You know, if you think about it, language is absurd. What do y'all think about that?

Posts: 1,659Posted 15 years ago #Yo trench, ill be checking that out soon, im back in uni now so gotta be reading acedemic stuff, but i got a load of books to get through yt.
I tried to read that george rr martin dodo but couldnt get into it, i bet when they make a film of it (which is guaranteed) it will be epic but the book didnt do it for me.
Picked up the adventures huckelberry finn yesterday, im trying to read some classics, so cant wait to start that, other than that, its all sociology and criminology books.

Also not a book, but a very good read are the Wax Poetics Anthologies

Yeah it's a bit intense with all the politics and sh1t, and does take a while to get rolling because of the sheer amount of characters. I'm getting close to the end of the last book though, so I'm gonna have to start thinking about going to George Martin's house and forcing him at gunpoint to write the next book.... They are making a TV series, produced by the same dudes that did Rome apparently, should be pretty pretty pretty goood.

Posts: 1,659Posted 15 years ago #No doubt i will watch the TV series and love it, but book wernt for me.. pity. ah well, means i can get on and read some sociology, u got and hints n tips dodo? some sociology based books that can be entertaining to read? i really digged malcolm gladwell, anything in a similar vein?
hip-hop books could be a good idea for me Po, need to educate myself a bit more.

Posts: 1,874Posted 15 years ago #hmmm, that's tricky... I would say, one of the biggest helps for me was scholar.google.com for finding good relevant journal articles, get on that sh1t. Apart from that, I'd stick to the reading lists, there's so much out there, it's hard not to get distracted from the stuff you should be reading.
