So i thought this would be a good idea, a thread to post up how the life of learning is going and anything intresting you may of learnt and wanna share...

Ive just started back this week and its freshers week, its not really my thing but good to see people and catch up. Ive enrolled in my subjects: Major-Sociology Minor:-Criminology, i just gotta pick the modules im gonna do in the individual subjects so ill let you know what ive picked next week.

Its good to be back in uni and it should be an entertaining and fun three years.

I just started a masters degree in public health this week, and I'm f*ckin lovin it man. So good to not be stuck in an office trying not to fall asleep. Mad amounts of reading to do though. And with that, I'm off to the library to learn about statistics and research methods. Sounds dry, but I'm still just loving being in education again. K.R.S.

I had to choose 4 modules, unfortunatly there wasnt as much scope for choice as i hoped because its my 1st year:

Im doing:

Reading, writing and reasearching for your sociology degree, pretty self explanitry.

Youth, New directions and agendas. Talking about the effects of mobile phones, facebook etc on young people and the effects its having on society.

Conflict, crisis and change. Talking about wars, economic effects on the world and the changes this will bring about to us.

I also gotta do a public services module, which im yet to find out about, because the lecturer has gone sick and theres no one to replace her, so im a bit annoyed bou that....

with regards to criminology im doing

understanding crime, criminals and victims

and

criminological theories.

Are modules the equivalent of courses in the US?

Yeah modules are pretty much just courses.

Your modules sound interesting dude... particularly conflict crisis and change, I did quite a lot of stuff around that... no mass media modules? I thought you'd be interested in that sh1t.

DoDo, they were really close to getting rid of sociology in the university so the module choices are LAME! although the new directions module should cover alot of stuff about the internet which is a form of media (posssibly the main form of media in the future?) so that should be fun. I couldnt even take straight sociology, hence the major minor but im really looking forward to criminology now, some intresting stuff, Although, this being my 1st year the subjects arnt quite as in depth as i would like but next year i can be more specific... yay.

I didnt explain myself very well earlier but the reason im doin a public services module is becase the module i wanted to do is no longer around, that module is poverty and crime. Something i REALLY wanted to look at, basically, is there a link between poverty and crime? i thought this would be an intresting one, surley not all "poor" people can be potential criminals can they? and just becase your rich doesnt mean yournot going to commit a crime? this was a sociology module so would of looked at it in a different way to criminology.

welllll I go to CSU- Sacramento, majoring in Child Development.. possible minor in spanish but probably not. It would just be for fun since I love it. ummm nothing really interesting about school. I am taking an ART 133 class and i get to paint and do activities everyday... It teaches me how to teach art to kids:) its so fun!

Well, I'm old then. I graduated in 2001. Got my degree in Accounting from University of Illinois at Chicago. Have plans to get my MBA but every year passes and I grow farther from that goal.

I flunked a business calculus class second semester freshman year. Took it again the next semester with the same professor along with a Finite Math class he taught. Both classes were scheduled back to back. Along with that, took a Chemistry and English class. Totaled 18 credit hours in one semester. Passed all four classes.

I also once completed a semester research paper, start to finish, in about 48 hours my sophomore year for a Latin American Studies class. Didn't sleep the entire time. Day one, gathered all my research at the library and summarized it. Day two, banged it out on the laptop to turn it in the next morning. Got an A.

My favorite class was a History of Chicago class. Most hated was a Tax Accounting class. The tax class sucked because we did everything by hand. But...I am good with income tax returns so if you need help I can steer you in the right direction.

I'm a Senior at the University of Memphis.

Majoring in Film and Cinema Production and working for the Athletic Video Department, I want to work with sports film, possibly, hopefully for Espn.

ha ha, fine work! I'm a bit more organised at uni this time round so hopefully won't have to do any of the old all nighters...

Criminology will be interesting mambo, it'll surprise you I reckon.

Harsh times at uni in the UK, everything is being tightened and cut. The conservatives reckon education is frivolous apparently. F*ckers.

i thought a coalition ment that both partys have a say in policies, or have the lib dems just bent over and become the whipping boy.... yeah criminology should be cool, just spent like £150 on books for my courses, but should stand me in good stead for the rest of my time in uni (+ they look good when i put em on my bookcase, lol)

Lib Dems ain't sh1t homey. I was a big fan, but they've gone back on literally every important policy they had going into the elections, and now they're a joke as far as I'm concerned. It's a conservative government in reality, the Lib Dems ain't got no say... sad times

Sad aint it! Labour (i think) is gonna go back to its roots, become more left wing, pick up support from the unions etc and ty and come back into power that way! 2bh, next time i vote its either communist or socialist party for me! We need some lefts up in power. lol.
