ok, i will try to explain this as best as i can, it's much easier to just show someone.
it will seem all complicated at first, but it's easy once you play a game or two.
you can play with as many people as you like, but i find it is best with just 2.
you will need:
-6 dice. (you guessed it)
-some paper and a pen or a pencil for keeping score.
-some refreshing beverages
-your favorite smokables.
-some PUTS on the stereo.
that's it!
ok, to start, each player rolls 1 dice. (6 is high)
highest roll goes first, lowest roll keeps score (sucka!)
in case of a tie, roll again.
so you roll all 6 dice.
1's are worth 100 points, 5's are worth 50
if you roll 3 of a kind*, it is worth the face value x 100, three 3's are worth 300 etc.
three 1's are worth 1000.
if on any roll you don't get a 1 or a 5 or a three (or more) of a kind, your turn is done.
so let's say i roll this:
1, 3, 3, 4, 5, 6.
so the 1 is worth 100, the 5 is worth 50.
you can continue rolling, but you have to keep at least 1 dice, in this case i will keep the 1, (and not the 5- to increase my odds on the next roll)
so then i roll the 5 remaining dice.
so i roll my remaining 5 dice and get this:
3, 3, 3, 4, 5
so i still have my 1(100 points) from before, and now i just rolled 350 points (the three 3's and the 5) so now i have 450 points.
(the way we play is that you need 500 to get on the board, this is optional, but fun)
at this point i can either keep my points or roll the remaining one dice... very risky.
if you score on all six dice, you HAVE TO keep rolling- that is, you remember where your score was at and roll all six dice again, then add it to your previous score.
so i will stay on 450, now it's the other players turn.
player 2 rolls:
1, 1, 1, 5, 5, 6
which is 1100 points- three 1's, two 5's.
player 2 is now kicking my ass and decides to stay.
ok, here's where things get interesting.
it is now my option to either roll all six dice as per usual,
OR
i can roll on what my opponent has left with his/her remaining dice.
so let's say i roll on their 1100 (with the one remaining dice) and get a 1.
that puts me at 1200, BUT i have to keep going because i scored on the last dice.
so i keep rolling and get
2, 2, 3, 4, 6, 6
yep, you guessed it, i f***ed up. turn over. (no 1's or 5's or three of a kind)
so my opponent rolls again with all six dice.
whew! this is harder to explain than i thought it would be.
ok, well, that's the jist of it, really.
you keep playing until you get to 10,000 points.
HOWEVER, you have to get 10,000 points legit, no going over! (like darts)
this is also where things get interesting.
so let's say i am at 9600 points.
i need to roll 400 to win, no more.
so i take my turn as per normal, if i go over 10,000, i get no points and still am at 9600.
(remember, at this stage of the game, if you roll points, you have to take them- and as always if you roll and score with all six dice, you roll all six again).
and that's it fellas.
it is WAY more fun in real life than i make it sound here, and there is a ton of strategy involved, as to what to keep, what to roll, etc.
sometimes if you roll big points you may not want to leave very many dice for your opponent to roll on, so it sometimes is a good idea to keep rolling.
*weird rules:
-if you roll 4 of a kind it is double the value of three of a kind.
so rolling four 4's would be 800 points.
four 1's is 2000.
-five of a kind doubles it AGAIN.
so five 4's would be 1600 points.
-and yeah, six of a kind doubles it again,
so six 4's would be 3200 points. (pretty rare)
-if, at the beginning of a turn, a player rolls 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
it is a 1000 point BONUS.
that is, you take 1000 points and continue your turn as per usual,
in this case i would usually take the 1 and keep rolling with five dice.
you keep the 1000 point bonus even if you don't score on your turn.
-like i said before, the way we play is that you have to roll 500 to get in the game, and until you do, you can't roll on anyone elses points.
