Got my DVD a few days ago and watched it the same night. The video quality looks awesome... Can anyone name everyone on the stage? I saw JazMak, Cut Chemist, Andy & Dizzy, Bluefoot... Who else? I thought I might've seen kid lex, but inmay have been trippin...

I wanted to punch them in their knitted caps and hemp sweatshirts for being such lames. How are you front row at a PUTS show and not excited at all? Me? I'm reciting the lyrics to damn near every song and hyped throughout the show.

I noticed that too, eso, and I was just as pissed about the crowd reaction. It was a special show for a band that still cares about music and approaches it with passion for what they do (instead of overemphasizing showmanship just to get money, like "big name" concerts), and those expressionless-*ss people were acting like it was a coffeehouse poetry slam that they were analyzing or critiquing.esomedina said:

'Cause I have to say I'm amazed at how little I heard the audience during the DVD. I was actually torn about it. I liked the fact I could hear PUTS more (big time), but I almost felt cheated out of that ovepowering roar of a highly-enthused audience. At the Sacramento show I was just at, we were so loud at certain points that all I heard was white noise, but it didn't matter in the moment.
Yeah, I find myself doing that a lot too... There were some obviously-new-to-PUTS people at the Sac show that kept looking at me like "Daaaamn!" when I was singing along with every song (I LOVE singing that "'causeeverythingIsaywillonedayoranotherberecoveredinitsoriginalplay" part of Rock Our Sh*t). Saddest part about the whole night was the fact that, when the first DJs came on and were mixing Tribe Called Quest and Blackalicious and everything, everyone (even the PUTS fans) was just standing around and looking at each other. I was even head-nodding and silently mouthing that stuff. I better stop before I sound like an egotist, but man... I feel like hip hop fans who can't keep it contained are the true motherf*ckers (and not 'cause they want to show out, but just 'cause, cuz).esomedina said:

We just feel it too much. It's like when you first hear the beat drop you go "OOOOOOOOOH" and then start busting the rhymes. Me and boys do that at every show we go to. Once we hear a familiar break/intro, we snap.
And yes, that part from "Time To Rock Our sh!t" is my favorite too.

Haha, alright, awesome to hear. That lends creedence to my theory that the sound guys just did a really good job of toning down the crowd noise (which is a lot better than thinking the crowd wasn't involved). Thanks for the post, dusty!dusty diggin' said:

Posts: 32Posted 15 years ago #Well my friend that went to that show said that some of the people in the crowd were hella wack and he felt that no one was enjoyin it at all and he didn't expect that from L.A. puts fans . and also at the sac show I meet this kid also who told me the same thing.

Honestly, we white people just sorta show up everywhere. Snoop's biggest sales of Doggystyle came from the middle-class-to-rich white suburbs (funny how "parental concern" and the RIAA censorship activity activity started to skyrocket around that point, huh?). And the P's never been about that, if people are having fun, they could have green skin and six arms (can hold more beers that way).
Instead, I peep the activities of the people in the crowd... you know, the posers, the partiers, the heads, etc... 'cause so many people come to the shows for different reasons. Here's a small sample (but by no means exhaustive):
- A lot of people come out to dance ('specially the ladies), and no one should have a beef with that... that's flavor for the show right there (unless they aren't dancing and saying the show sucks or something)
- A lot of people come 'cause they expected some radio sh*t, so they get p*ssed that it isn't Chamillionaire or something, and then they stand around looking sour. F*ck 'em; hopefully, they'll learn something, but I'm not holding my breath. A few of these people even come to "boo" or act wack. "Man, these guys ain't sh*t..." (then why are you here?)
- A lot of people internalize all the fun, and just stand there like zombies... not to be too racist, but that encompasses a LOT of the white people... they ARE having fun, but they're thinking too hard or trying to act too cool to actually move and feel it. I THINK that that's what the El Rey "standers" were doing. 'Cause I saw a few smiles and head-nods.
- And finally, a lot of people are there 'cause they like the group, hip-hop, turntables, or MCing. These people sing along, knock over the people next to them, whyle out, and everything else. When I go to a show, I want to see EVERYONE in there going this crazy (except the ladies... they can do whatever they want.) -

Posts: 64Posted 15 years ago #I live in the SF bay area, and I have been to many shows encompassing many different genres of music. I have also been to a few shows in LA too (but never PUTS at el rey.) At the shows here around home, the crowd is always into the music. If you see a jazz show in Oakland, people are groovin' the whole time. If you see some PUTS at Slims, fools are wilin' out and having a good time. If you go see some rock in Santa Cruz, you gotta get in front of the stage and get crazy. From the shows I've seen in LA, people just stand there, recording the show on their cell phones, or making a 'concert call', or texting, or standing there. Sacto, I like how you say 'internalizing all the fun.' Going to see live music is all about letting your ego go, getting with the flow of the music, dancin', groovin', gettin' your drink on, having a good time and forgetting about life's troubles. Another difference I noticed, is that bay area shows are extremely herb friendly, where as in socal, well, not so much.
