I remember one of you guys, ages ago, put up an odd future tune, I think I kind of dismissed it as interesting but not my cup of tea, but now they seem to be blowing up. This guy tyler the creator seems to have a really nice flow, I like this tune:
I respect your hip hop opinions so what you think? Fresh? Overhyped? I'd be interested to see what thes thinks about it...

I've liked them since trenchmc posted up about them a while ago here.
Maybe my age is showing now, but I think the fact they are able to get on to MTV with no "machine" push is an achievement ( I don;t know what MTV's standards are for playing videos anymore). Most of that can be attributed to their audience though. If white kids like it, then you'd made it so to say.

Oh yeah, it was Trench, props to that guy, he was up on this pretty early. Yeah, the fact they're on MTV is pretty hilarious, they seem to be enjoying it so why not. It's nice to see some semi-respectable hip hop getting some mainstream play. I'll be interested to see where Tyler the creator goes from here. I just hope he doesn't turn into some ego-maniacal kanye clone... Interesting about the white kids thing too. I just don't know, I feel my age these days (27), most of the "memed" stuff that flies around the internet kind of does my f***ing head in, I just don't get it. I feel quite out of touch you know? It's nice to hear some brand new stuff that I like, it's rare these days. Maybe that's what happens to every generation though, an inevitable "sh!t was better when I was a yout" when you get to a certain age...

Well they're better than alot of stuff that gets play on MTV...but then again that's only going so far. I like Tyler's flow...Frank Ocean is pretty dope as well. I can agree with dodo on feeling out of touch with the new stuff . I wish Kam Moye aka Supastition didn't retire; that's all ive been listening to lately.

Odd future was at Coachella Valley Music Festival. I've watched a few vids on youtube and there a couple I like. Tyler has a pretty sick flow and so does a couple of other guys but they bombed at the show. They were too excited. Just started yelling sh!t over loud beats. It was weird. Nothing like how they do on their vids. I haven't watched Mtv since they started playing all those reality shows(unless my wife forces me to endure teen moms or Jersey Shore) so I don't know if those videos are any different. But everyone was still hyped they were performing so I guess its good for them.

I didn't even realise they were getting play on MTV. That is quite crazy to me - when I saw that Odd Future vids before it was interesting but so totally non-mainstream I didn't think it would get much play. Like horror-rap mixed with Anti-pop Consortium! That Tyler video is amazing though and his bassy voice is crazy!

Bedroom rappers with internet hype can't put on a show - what a surprise! Saw Edan & Paten Locke last week... now THAT was a f***ing show!!!

Tyler the Creator's got a really good voice for rapping and his style is very interesting. I'll probably get Goblin. Earl is also pretty good at rapping I like a lot of the stuff I've heard from him thus far. Oh, and Frank Ocean is tight also. Don't know much about the rest of the OFWGKTA crew.

And you should hear their records. No, you really should. For sustained and diverse brilliance, only the Wu-Tang Clan with their numerous side projects come close, and even they weren't this precocious
...
In this writer's opinion it is one of the best rap albums ever made

I flicked through the channels last night while the adverts came on during 'Escape from LA' 
And I ended up on Newsnight and they were doing a piece on Odd Future.
I watched...
It said they have given over 20 albums (?!!) worth of material away for free and that they make their money from Merch.
£100 for a t-shirt... like what the dudes wearing above in Yoyo's post.
They set up a shop for like a day and sell completely overpriced merch to teens with all the same hairstyles.
The guy doing the piece asked one guy quing up why he liked 'Odd Future' he didnt really know... LOL.
The piece was trying to determine if this was the new rock and rock or something and ended the piece saying something like...
"is it just money for old rope... or should that be old dope for new bongs"
LMAO
Their music was ok but I wouldn't buy it... it seems these days people are either getting really really dark in their music/rapping or really political... I was thinking... surely they're missing the point... music should be enjoyable and FUN!!
