Since we've got (by current estimates) two and a half months until this gets dropped, we might as well get the hype started. So... what are you looking for with this new joint?

Discussion points (but by no means mandatory):
• I noticed the PUTS only do promotional things once, so I don't think we'll see a concert-only release (AMV1), internet leak (redheaded stepfather), beedi in the spine (next step), or mixtape (funner than leather)... so what now? What's PUTS bringing to the table to promote this? I've noticed that they HAVE done quite a few YouTube videos... think there will be one later this summer? Rick James on the comeback?

• By the looks of the blog post someone linked in another recent thread, a lot of people have bought into the "after OST, PUTS went downhill" or "I lost them after Stepfather" hype. I, personally, think it's bullsh*t and the brothers have come with some next level sh*t each time. IMO, Carried Away was even a career rounder, and I could hear shades of every other album in it. Where's the sound going now, and do you think they can bring something that will basically tell those naysayers to eat a fat d*ck?

• What kind of album cover are we looking for? That last one was funny as h*ll.

• Which song on the last album provides the direction that you want to see this album move in?

How we looking on Highlighter, y'all?

All I know is I want that track on the DVD in the special features (with Double K scratching "so if you're in the city and you want it like that") to get dropped!

I'm not sure what to expect. With the term "Highlighter" I think bright which could mean a more electronic sound for this album. Or naming the album "Highlighter" could mean their music should standout in the almanac of album releases. As in, sure you've read about other albums and info but the 9th PUTS album should be remembered when its exam time.

I can't tell you how many times I listened to "All Good Things" and then "Carried Away" which leads me to hope we get more thought provoking/introspective rhymes from the duo. That kind of direction would lead me to think that "Highlighter" could mean that we should pay attention to more of the behind the scenes than what is actually presented.

As for promotional material, I envision this album to be their first real digital experience due to the PL70 site. Maybe we get video files of the recording process or another day in the life type presentation like Stepfather. As for physical copies and "bonus incentives" to buy the album, I'm thinking we get a more personalized experience again due to the PL70 site. Maybe pre-orders include a personal thank you or some kind of name recognition for the true P fans. Maybe buying the album from the site gets you access to events before their next tour. Like say a BBQ in Chicago, house party in LA, etc.

I want to make clear I'm not expecting this "extra" stuff, but it's fun to speculate how the P will endear themselves more to us.

I don't know what to expect, and I love the P for that! As my man Nas said on the Stillmatic album intro,

They thought I'll make another "Illmatic"
But it's always forward I'm moving
Never backwards stupid here's another classic

That's just what the P do, they always try to innovate, always forward never backwards.

Personally, I'd love to see P.U.T.S. do a few songs with a funk band, or where the usual dope beats are also meshed or mixed in with some riffs from a live band. Nothing where the band is over-powering, just where it fits or perfectly follows some beats I've seen Double K play the drums at one concert, so I have no doubt this would be possible and it would be dope.

As for going with electronic sounding beats, damn I hope not. I'm not a fan of that genre at all, and from the interviews I've heard, I don't think Thes is either.

Yeah, eso, I have a feeling that PL70 will be a huge part of the new album's promo process too... I wonder how sales will roll out... Deluxe editions? Special vintage 8-track versions of Highlighter just to celebrate album 8? (Does anyone on here HAVE an 8-track player anymore?)

Thes could completely bake advantage of us PUTS-crackheads and do some kind of "1st buyer at midnight gets flown down to LA to meet us"-type thing, and I'll brake my computer trying to be the first one.

They've guested Headnodic and Kat 010 before... I, for one, think it'd be dope if they got all of Crown City in on a track... I still think bands like Poets of Rhythm or Galactic would mesh well with the P... Or maybe the guys from the Wonderful Radio sessions... Double on the drums would be a sight... Does anyone know if Thes can play an instrument?

what about the Double K solo / Acoustic Maurice / Wonderful Radio and all that? ever coming out? These P albums just jump out of nowhere!

Posse cuts... I was actually thinking about that the other day... So many classics in the 80's came out on 12" vocal/instrumental singles... How dope would it be if PL70 did a limited edition 12"-only "Zulu Nation Throw Down"-type release that was like "West Coast Throw Down, Pt. 1 & 2" featuring PUTS, UD, Rashaan Ahmad, Time Machine, Shawn Jackson, etc., and it's just a 15-minute posse cut...

I'm thinking with the title highlighter, we're going to get bright colors on the next album cover. Maybe with the back cover having the tracks listed in a document and highlighted so that they stand out amongst the rest of the text. I know Thes digs Stereolab (I do also) and I could see the album having a bright cheery sound like a lot of their music does.

Haha, when I first heard highlighter I thought potential marijuana reference. Maybe they'll make some sort of pun out of Double K's lighter getting a contact high ?

I just can't wait to hear the new album though. What I'm most stoked about is the fact that since they're independent now they can just do whatever the f*** they want. The music we'll be hearing won't be going through any filters set by the label; it'll be just straight from the P.

ah im so excited! i think its gonna be really good .I have loved all their albums, something is always diff and thats good. As much as people love the same thing (im guilty of it too) people have to experiment elsewhere and see all the great potential they have.

I cant wait to get home and look up some yyoutube videos and what not. I have no idea whats been going on with them lately! ahh i love the P
