Further to the above....had a little checkski and it looks as though these will play in the UK......sweet. Sit back relax listen to some hip hop.
Yeah, I think that Q-Tip is the only one that's still not behind it. The other three were definitely okay with it... although if I was Phife, I would NOT want that backstage footage from Rock The Bells on there. That was raw stuff.
I still wish I could hear what Tip, Phife, and/or Ali think about PUTS' "Check the Vibe".
To those that have seen it I have a burning question... There's a beat at 1:03:03 thats buggin the hell out of me. Tip's talking over it. I might even have it but just can't place it. Anybody know it????????????!
I'm not sure Tip still isn't behind it, after it came out and had a few showings. There's a clip somewhere of Phife going up on stage for a talk after one of the premier's. He's talking about all the incredible love people have shown over the years and if Tip could see it, he'd know there's nothing to worry about. Dude breaks down into tears. There were parts in the movie where I was close to.... Truly compelling stuff.
not really in the HipHop realm, but this flick reminded me of the Wilco movie from 2004 (ish?) 'I Am Trying to Break Your Heart'.
the reason is that the Wilco flick kinda makes Jay Bennett (who was kicked out of the band during the recording, and passed away last year) look like the total dick of the situation, but it later came out that it was mostly due to the editing. supposedly, it could have had even more footage of Jeff Tweedy being a jerkoff than mr. Bennett, but that just wouldn't look good for an artist still working on their same career... ahem.
i couldn't help but seeing the parallels.
just goes to show that you can't take any movie as a face-value depiction of anything, so i think we gotta take this Tribe movie the same way.
Good point, OceanHomie.
Bottom line: sucks that the crew couldn't pull together to offer more good music, but while they were hot, they were HOT. Another reason to respect the eight-album streak of PUTS. Can I get an "Amen"?!
AMEN to DAT!!!
is it too soon to be looking forward to number 9? (number 9, number 9, number 9)

I still think I'm slightly more on Phife's side though; Q-Tip's just never hit the highs that he did after ATCQ, and I think for cats like him and Busta Rhymes and Mos Def and a few others, they are drawn by the allure of the media machine and that commercialism, but they are trying to stay rooted, and... well, I think they've lost a piece of themselves to that allure. I hope I'm not riling anyone up here.
...very true.
missed the UK premier with Phife show few months back, damn sold out! Still need to check this out. MIDNIGHT MARAUD!
They seem to have patched things up this year for at least this occasion:
