   Hey everyone -

   Since we first launched PL70, we've been fighting an uphill battle trying to get the search engines to rank it appropriately amongst Wes Craven, Wikipedia, ye old Myspace page, and 10+ years of articles that link everywhere but the right place.

   Now that Google specializes search results based on your Google profile and location, it's a bit tricky to see exactly where the PL70 site ranks overall by just searching from a single computer.

   So, if everyone could search for People Under The Stairs in Google and tell us where the PL70 People Under The Stairs page ranks (i.e. first link on the page, fourth down, etc.) - it'd be a huge help to know where we stand. Folks google People Under The Stairs all the time looking for tour dates, when they hear acid raindrops for the first time, etc and we want to make sure they land on pages with current info instead of the outdated stuff or Wes Craven's movie.

   Example:

   On my browser, when logged into Google, PL70 | People Under The Stairs is the fifth search result on the first page.

   Okay, So...

   PL70.net comes up on the 2nd page, second result down in google search, i make it the 11th "site" to come up, however, because of googles (maybe mine, im on google+ signed in) theres a load of images and videos that come up with the search aswell? Nope, i signed out and its still 11th (not including images and videos) Just for fun heres the others...

   1) PUTSonline
   2) PUTS wikipedia (Group)
   3) PUTS wikipedia (Movie)
   4) PUTS IMDB (Movie)
   5) Images including movie, group and covers
   6) PUTS Myspace (Is this still used?)

   So technically 15th item but site wise 11th, hope that helps, also, i searched on google.com but am in the UK and i used the everything icon as opposed to shopping,images etc,

   the PUTS wikipedia page came up 1st for me, followed by that damned movie.
   3rd was myspace, 4th was good old putsonline.co.uk and unfortunately, PL70.net didn't show up till page 2...
   the 11th link in total, below the OM records link even.

   whatever, google, shmoogle.

   keep up the great work guys!
   cannot WAIT to hear the stuff coming out this year!

    You may or may not have one of your biggest fans working for the aforementioned web giant - in fact, I missed the show in Austin at SXSW last year because my interview was the next morning. Alas, I missed Thes and Double but got the job.

    I don't work in search or have contacts there - but could an organic campaign, perhaps through the facebook fan site, help boost the ratings? If everyone +1's the PL70 page?

    Using chrome and google.co.uk I typed in people under the stairs and the first result is here (www.putsonline.co.uk - front page)
    Pl70.net is at the top of page 2.

    Well, there's a pl70 ad on the right side on the first page, but from the actual search results, the website is 8 links down on the second page, 11 links down if you count the sub-listings for PUTS related videos

    Our issue is that Facebook sharing is largely private and not trackable by Google, and links clicked on through emails are seen as direct links and aren't registered in the same way as links from external sites are. These are really the best tools out there to reach people in a non-intrusive, sensible way, and we're not going to compromise on our principals and do the kind of sneaky "content farm" stuff that so many people are doing these days, but it's frustrating that Google's pagerank can't always account properly for the amount of incoming traffic.

    Google +1 also, contrary to how it may appear, doesn't affect general search rankings, only boosts rankings for pages that friends have +1'ed. But yeah, go ahead and add your +1, it can't hurt!

    Congrats on the Google job btw, what do you do there?
