2 inches of snow (in my driveway) and counting... Snowboarding season is so close I can taste it! All the trees have yet to shed their leaves, gonna be a lot of broken limbs after this storrm.

Down here in Sac, we just got our first "moderate" rain of the season.
I'm a HUGE Autumn guy. I don't know why, but I think it's more romantic than Spring. Yes, the ladies start bringing out the revealing clothes in Spring (and the bikinis by Summer). In the Fall, though, they wanna get closer to you and keep warm... you know...
Another reason I'm getting happier now: as much as I like BBQs, I'm a big soup guy, and it's high time for a big bowl.

Posts: 1,528Posted 14 years ago #Chicago was predicted to have another bad winter. Supposed to get the same snowfall as last year, 50+ inches. Hopefully we don't get 20+ inches in one day like we did last year. That was a surreal experience to say the least. I live by the Lake, so we had some tremendous snow drifts. Cars completely submerged in snow.
I like Spring and Autumn. Weather cool enough where you may need a jacket. Just cold enough where the warmth of the sunlight feels good.

I have been a professional instructor @ Snowbird for a few years in the past. Riding is what makes me feel alive, nothing like being in nature with only the sound of your board ripping through the snow and the fresh powder blasting your face! Snowbird is one of the world's baddest, most fun mountains to ride, it would be similar to what Teahupoo or North Shore's Pipeline would be to a surfer.
You guys (and gals) are always welcome here, hit me up if you do(we can ride that face in my avatar if you'd like)... I will be the welcoming committee and tour guide, combined with entertainment!

Lake effect is crazy... that is why we have "The Greatest Snow On Earth"! The super-salty water in the Great Salt Lake never freezes, thus allowing all passing storms to absorb as much moisture as they can hold before usually dumping all of it in Big & Little Cottonwood Canyons, which is where I reside.
on a side note, I just read somewhere that my zip code is home to more professional winter athletes than the entire world combined... So I guess you could say I grew up in my own kind of Mecca!

Posts: 163Posted 14 years ago #Man, I was bummed to see snow. I used to ski every year, now my knees have both been blown and repaired, and they just dont feel stable strapped into skis any more. I'm a warm weather man now. Just picked up my first full suspension bike a couple weeks ago. No more snow! Gotta prolong the bike season.
Slc hard: I had a pass to snowbird way back in 1996 or so. Love the bird.

It's a very unique situation, the high salt content actually makes the snow very light and fluffy, sucking most of the moisture out of it. Imagine if there were huge walls(our Mountains) around the Great Lakes surrounding towns... the walls would not allow the "Moisture-saturated" clouds to pass over them without releasing their load. This is why the Cottonwood canyons in SLC get pummeled with over 500 inches annually, yet the Park City & The Canyons resorts get about half that because they are on the backside of the Cottonwood Canyons! It's like god said, THIS is where it's at!

A hell of a lot safer than planks, both knees being attached to the same board keeps the twisting and tweaking out of the scenario(for the most part).

I once suffered a severe ankle sprain while skiing (boots strapped down tight). Still haven't figured that out yet.

Posts: 163Posted 14 years ago #I've been at the base of some ski resort not far from omaha, Nebraska. It was summer, so I can't speak of the snow. I was just impressed they had a ski hill.

Still haven't figured that out yet.Usually, the guys that I hear blowing their knees out are hucking large and it wouldn't matter what they were on... as far as spraining your ankle in ski boots, WTF!? I would have thought that was impossible seeing how your feet are locked in so tight. That sucks about your knees man, maybe we'll just get you an innertube and have you be the "cooler"!
With you being into biking I'm wondering if I just found myself a permanent Sled driver...? See you @ the bottom!
