No way.
Go listen to that on vinyl from start to finish.
I must play 'Hey Ladies' at least once a week.
And the end of side 2 (like one big track) is awesome with the beats and the bass.

I do have to say though apart from his MTV unplugged CD most of Jay-Z's albums are overrated.

Maybe I could appreciate what they've achieved, but their attitude (and the little snippets of music that I've heard) smacks of the whole pop radio rap celebrity thing. They just seem to both want to be too big for their own britches. I know they did a good job making something from nothing, but...
Love paul's boutique as well (that goes back to that "important in the historical context" that we talked about earlier), I loved all of in rainbows except house of cards and videotape (and the song bangers and mash on the bonus disc is off the hook), and handsome boy modeling school records have been hit-or-miss to me when taken on a song-by-song basis, but the good tracks are REALLY good.

Posts: 584Posted 14 years ago #Honestly.....some of Kanye's earlier production was good and thats where he should've stayed.....trouble is he beleived his own hype and started MCing which was just a mistake. The onyl reason i can listen to the MTV unplugged Jay-Z set is due to the Roots being the band and bringing some musicallity to those wack gangsta beats!!!
I've got to a point now where i just don't read reviews....there was a time when i would read HHC (Hip Hop Connection) every month and take notice of the reviews, these days i try and go by producers, record labels and peeps afilliated. I also have this odd habit of just buying things based on cover art which in most cases is the wrong thing to do but sometimes you get some gems!!!
Back on point though, Pauls Boutique is a classic, Moment of Truth is pretty good but i think i missed it to a degree.

I've never heard "In Rainbows", and you're right about Jay-Z and Kanye (although I feel that way about the complete discography of both those f***s)....
That being said, you need to take a deep breath and hold it until you die for throwing "Moment of Truth" on that stack....I wouldn't be the hip-hop head I am now without that album, and after learning about the Nation of Gods and Earths, it makes a hell of a lot more sense....The same goes for "Fantastic, Vol. 2"......
First HBMS is the sh!t, the second one I never really got behind....
I'm gonna have to dig around my stacks to add to this thread, but I can come up with Ten albums, minimum, which are far more overrated.....

But seriously though, Nas was years ahead of his time with that album.
I think a very overrated is that Lootpack's first cd, Soundpieces: Da Antidote. DJ Rome production is at times ill, but Wildchild is just not a very good rapper.
I actually also think Moment of Truth is overrated. Couple DJ Premier gems on that one, and R.I.P. to Guru but he is just way to monotone in terms of his flow for my liking, bores me sometimes.
