Did you ever listen to Magnificent City? The album RJD2 and Aceyalone did together. That's a good starting point. I know that Wells Fargo used one of his songs off of Deadwringer for an add campaign they were running a few years ago. If you are a DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist fan, you should dig him.

If you are giving Jay-z a 1, you don't know hip-hop and I bet both Thes and Dub would agree with me. F that all mainstream rappers are sellouts noise, good hip-hop is good hip hop.

Panacea is good hip hop as is their other group /Restoring Poetry in Music..

I have to disagree with you on Dispet and Cam'ron etc.. I cant stand any of them lol I never thought they came out with good music but everyone has diff taste:) I also disagree that Jayz is better than Tupac.. not just because everyone loves Tupac and hails him as the best, there is just something about the messages he sends in a lot of his songs.. .Jay z has some good songs.. but he is just Overrated as whole to me.

I respect your view boombip. In terms of the Jay-z vs Tupac debate I just see it this way. Tupac has a deeper message, but in terms of clever word play I have to give it to Jay-z, and I think Jay-z albums are just overall a little better produced although there are some absolute terrible Jay-z songs that are so terribly produced that even he can't save them. That Haters song produced by Kanye on his last album comes to mind.

Also I respect your view on Dipset and Cam'ron boombip, I'm sure I'm one of the view people who listen to them and love the P, but sometimes I just want ignorant, entertaining hip-hop, not just the 'save the world, up with people' message that people like Talib and Common put out, and I think Dipset does that well. Dipset also just does a great job producing a 'bombastic but at times gritty' sound that I enjoy, and he might seem like a dumbass if you just start listening to him but Cam'ron does have some very clever wordplay.

Think I remember an interview where Thes said that he a Double listen to some Dipset. That really surprised me but I don't remember where I heard that interview.

Oh dont get me wrong! i have my FAIR share of ra pthat i listen to that does no good for the world lol, i mean i love meaningful hip hop but not all the time do i want a deep message.

One of my FAVORITE hip hop groups are Do or Die and Bone Thugs (in terms of more mainstream) and hardly any of their songs are really heartfelt messages but I think they are amazing artists and I love them.. goes for Too short, E40, keak, Mac Dre (im from sac so i appreciate bay music) etc... so yea I know what you mean.

Jayz does have intersting word play, its hard sometimes to determine whose a "Better rapper" in some cases because a lot of talented rappers are talented for different reasons.. its not just about sales but what they say, how they say it, their production, their flow... etc..

I might be able to follow you on most of your choices. I might respect you for 'em even if I handily disagree with quite a lot of 'em, lock. I might even be able to get past all the frontin' and giving jay-z a four and calling blackalicious overrated (them's fightin' words)... but... Dig Planets at 1.5?!? Hooo, blasphemy. Go sit in the corner, man, hahaha.

Is there anyone on this forum who ISN'T impressed with Tribe? I think Love Movement had some weaker moments, but their whole catalog was more solid than my c0ck on rock.

SacTown Digible Planets is just too soft for me. If I want something jazzy or mellow I'll pump some Tribe or Question in the form of an answer but the Planets just don't do it. Blowout Comb was alright, but with only two real albums they don't really have a catelogue that impresses me.

I was probably overly harsh with Blackalicous though. No they are not a .5 (That's me trying for a shock post I guess. I do think they are overrated though, but opinion is all subjective so who knows.)

Yeah, Planets are soft, I agree, but that sound is mellow beyond belief. I think part of the allure is Ladybug Mecca; there aren't too many female rappers who can flow like that. The song "For Corners" with Suleman that closes out Blowout Comb is a gem. It uses that Shuggie Otis "Island Letter" track. "Reachin'" is good too... it's like... not as hippie'd out as "3 Feet High And Rising", but that vibe is still there.

I think Blackalicious has had their misses, and I'm not as crazy about Gab's career after "The Craft" (that solo joint "4th Dimensional Rocketships Going Up" is great though... also a "soft" one, but still...), but Blazing Arrow and Nia are classics of the best kind... especially Blazing Arrow. Well crafted...
