I have to say that Panacea is a highly undervalued group... Every single one of their albums (Thinking Back Looking Forward, Ink Is My Drink, The Scenic Route, A Mind On A Ship Through Time, 12 Step Program) & their other stuff (Corkscrew Gaps EP, The Re-Route) have some absolute gems on it. Every now and then, I hear a song I'm just not that into, but most of them are really really innovative with their soundscapes. Check out the following tracks for an idea of why Panacea is awesome: "Limitless Page", "Place on Earth", "Steel Kites", "Starlite", "Pops Said", "Blue Ice", "Square 1", "The Scenic Route", "Orange Penicillin", "L.A. VA", "Blue Oceanwave", "Texas Jigsaw Massacre"

I wish there was a radio station that played PUTS, UD, Panacea, Nujabes, Living Legends, Freestyle Fellowship, Jurassic 5, Tribe Called Quest, Beastie Boys, etc. etc. etc.

I completely agree!!! panacea is a really good group and they get slept on a lot.. you dont hear much about them. Their other group "Restoring Poetry in Music" has some cool tracks too.

bold statement... what's your reasoning? Is it that you are more negative about Fun DMC, or more positive about FTL? Personally, I don't think I'm really able to compare the two.

Fun DMC is an amazing album (and will be getting more play soon now that summer's coming back around...), and it's probably the most underrated album in PUTS' catalog. Stepfather got more negative press, but it still was praised in the right places. I think there's another thread on here about Stepfather & Fun DMC and why we all like it (too lazy to dig it up tho).

Funner Than Leather is an amazing promo mixtape, but I can't call it better than Fun DMC. A lot of it is straight mixing of other artists. The unique parts and guest spots are hot, and the DJ Day remix of Step Bacc is pure gold, but it just can't compare to Same Beat, People Riddum, The Grind, the original Step Bacc, etc.

Back on the subject of underrated albums, anyone remember "Night Train to Babble On" by FatHed? Dude's got a crazy voice which you either love or hate, but I played that album until it nearly wore out.

(Plus it has some production from some guy called LA Mike, AKA Double to the K. Can't sleep on that)

Yea, I would also say Fun DMC is vastly more of an experience than Funner than Leather, which is great, but...... its a mixtape. Gamin' On Ya, Same Beat, and the Mike and Chris Story (also The Grind and The Fun) are the tippy tops. FUN DMC > mixtapes IMHO

damn straight.
probably is on the highest rotation of any P album round these parts now that Highlighter madness has levelled off a bit.
it may just because of the Ping Pong, or maybe all the B-B-B-BBQs, hard to say.

Check out The LP by Large Pro - finally got reissued a few years back. There's a track called Havin' Fun from KK's sunglasses mix on there (which was sampled on Days Like These) and Pro uses the same loop from Earth Travellers on another track. Top drawer album which gets overlooked by virtue of the fact that the original release was so messy.

Also, gotta throw out J-Live's The Best Part.

Future Development by Del: Originally intended to be his 3rd album for Elektra before he got dropped, it was released on cassette in the very early days of Hiero Imperium in '97. Finally got a CD release in 2001, but it was really only available on the Hiero website and by import. That said, I consider it to be his best work (yes, I like it more than Deltron, though they're so completely different it's hard to actually compare them). I highly, highly recommend it.

T.I.M.E. by Leaders of the New School. I credit the track "What's Next?" for starting me on the path of listening to good hip-hop a little over 9 years ago, and the rest of the album is gold. Better than Future Without a Past, imo. Also, Charlie Brown is the sh!t.

Agree on both counts. RPM (which is more of a Raw Poetic thing) is releasing their last album pretty soon, I want to say in August? It's too bad that K-Murdock couldn't have a side project that good, rather than dabbling in nerdcore nonsense.

A Tribe Called Quest - People's Distinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm
Rawkus' Soundbombing II Compilation

Loved that Rawkus comp when I was a little tyke! Tribe album is the die-hard Tribe LP, and Nature's whole album was great...

I agree!!! that is a really good album i just bought it a few months ago.

Another underrated album is The Pharcydes Labcabincalifornia

It didn't get as good as reviews as their Bizarre ride, i agree that in that one they are way out there, so much going on, but Labcabin was really really good.. a little more mellow but they are still so creative and there are a lot of classics on there.. even their Plain Rap CD was really good and got extremely slept on. I had to listen to it a few times but that album really grew on me and i love it a lot now.
