   Monty Stark, anyone see the extras on that Stones Throw DVD with him and the band, I find that sh!t hypnotic, In a good way of course...

    what was the name of the guy who played for the baja marimba band? he was pretty nice to listen to, really lyrical. can't rememberhis name though... Julius Wechter, that was it. He wrote Spanish Flea et al. Put him down for me!

    I really want to learn to play but they are so expensive (i could get a cheap xylo). Me and a mate are thinking about a home-made malletkat style setup - ie pulling apart a midi keyboard and hitting it with mallets. do any tech heads or creative types have any ideas?

    No ideas but just for sake of interest, a Fender Rhodes electric piano works with mallets in exactly the same way a vibraphone works underneath that swass black plastic top. it is kind of like a a piano controlled vibraphone and is definitely up there in important instruments to hip hop. Maybe lookin' up how it works could help formulate a plan on construction.

    my stepfather fixes/builds em (rhodes) - i found out he tuned for herbie hancock. Hes gonna give me one - Ill have to crack it open and chat with him. cheers.

    Jazz's greatest vibraphonist was Lionel Hampton, supposedly. Thats straight outta my jazz notes for music 112, but im tripping cause I just saw Louis Logic and People Under The Stairs noted in my class booklet!!!
