I'm not jumping on them with this, or having a go.. but it's just something I have been thinking about for a while.

Where do PUTS stand (as of this moment)?

It's really hard to articulate this without coming off as negative, because I'm not trying to be.. but I'll try to get my thoughts out cohesively...

In a round about way, I am sort of referring to the touring situation.

So I saw PUTS in the UK 3 times.

The 1st time at Jazz Cafe in mayyybe 2003/4? It f***ing went off. Amazing. Saw them again just after Stepfather release in Nottingham and Manchester.

Now since then, its not like there hasn't been any activity.. man they have released 3 more albums, and been doing US shows.. but.. I dunno, is the lack of UK touring down to demand / getting booking requests (as mentioned by Thes) or really because, maybe.. they errrrr.... ...kinda ...don't want to??

Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on them whatsoever, so long as they keep releasing dope music I'm happy, and I can completely understand as you get older, taking on responsibilities etc.. a tour to the other side of the world away from commitments and family probably isn't gonna at the top of the list.

So, I'm just thinking out loud, but is maybe that the main deal behind (specifically the uk where I like to think the P has a fairly solid fan base) the lack of tour comes from?

I dunno, feel free to shout me down if you want.

I think the main reason I'm bringing it up is because I always check in on this forum, now and again. I used to check in all the time. I don't think my tastes are changing, but is it my imagination or has there been a distinct lack of activity as of late?

When the newest post (in the PUTS forum) is 5 days old, it says to me that people maybe aren't visiting as frequently. I remember when Thes'd come on the forum say a few things, the place would go a bit crazy.. and this place was buzzing.

I'm not saying that 'not' touring the UK and 'not' posting on the forum's n sh!t is bad, or disrespectful or anything like that.. but maybe I'm just a bit worried that outside of the diehards, not many people are kinda hanging around here anymore, and I'm wondering how much the lack of interaction outside the US has to do with that..

I'm not sure really what point I'm trying to make, it does seem that the P are reluctant to tour UK, fair enough if thats the case.. I just wonder where they feel they are at now in their careers? Maybe the tour thing / keeping up with the forum is not so much in the game plan at this stage of their lives, or a priority..

Yeah.. don't let that tour thing fool you (obviously I'd love to see them), its more to do with activity on the forum, how it may relate to touring and how this relates to where they at.. and therefore overall exposure to existing and new fans..

I have a similar feeling. I was mad excited about highlighter, the delays only added to this. Then I finally got my vinyl (just before xmas). LOVED IT, STILL LOVE IT, STILL ON ROTATION. But since the vinal arrived its all gone quiet. No news update on pl70 since November, no tour dates etc. Dont get me wrong, love the P, love the album, love all the albums, was just expecting the buzz to keep going. I am aware of what happened at pl70 with Brandon etc. Just would have loved the highlighter buzz to keep going (like a show in uk, video, 12" etc.)

Be aware though, as with Mmmfreegoo, not hating, just debating.

Well they have said that new things are on the way, but europe tour would not be bad. Thes must be fining his solo-LP so that kinda tells me that it will tie his hands for a while? Maybe they do some sort of a combo tour..like WRLA/PUTS stuff or something. Who knows. Yet, I admit that it has been a bit silent for a while now.

The point(s) you make are to a certain extent valid, the whole UK tour thing has been covered time and time again on this forum and as i far as i can workout its not a lack of wanting to etc its really more to do with timing etc and maybe even getting booked in better venues than they have done previously (i've seen them twice in the UK and although they were great shows they were a tad local).

So onto the activity on the forum...i like to think i post on this forum when i've got something to say and or a point to make, also normally the general level of activity increases when there is a new album etc and this place goes mad but guess when there isn't much new it does die down.

This is the only forum i am a member of and normally check it once a day to see whats going down and i am sure when Thes, PUTS or PL70 drop some new info the boards will light up again.

I hear what you guys are saying about not getting any recent tour dates, being from the US we are DEF spoiled in that regards. I can't speak for Thes or the P, but my guess is that they are just soooooo busy with making new albums, updating studio equipment, pressing vinyl (LP's and I would imagine 12"s), creating merchandise, keeping other PL70 projects going, etc. I know that Thes has always said that they do not call up venues asking to be on the bill. It is like you said mmmfreegoo," I dunno, is the lack of UK touring down to demand / getting booking requests (as mentioned by Thes)...?", they go where the demand is, aka promoters/venues requesting shows. On the Thes visiting the forum talk, I'm more concerned that he gets the PL70 site updated and current before he jumps on here to "hang-out".

And just to let everyone know that when the P were here in SLC January 27, Thes specifically told me to tell everyone on the forum What's UP!? and that they are very very busy and will be back ASAP... With all the other "label" responsibilities that Thes has now taken on, I can't even imagine what a day in the life of the man is like (especially since Brendan cut out like he did all of a sudden).

As far as the Forum's activity is concerned, that is a point of contention with me. It seems that from the beginning many people would only comment if Thes was actually involved in the convo. To this day, this trend has continued and there has always been an ebb & flow of activity and users. I am not trying to call anyone out here, but if you have a problem with the amount of posts/content being contributed, you should always look in the mirror first. Are YOU doing all that you can to make this forum all that it can be? Not saying that you haven't contributed mmmfreegoo, I'm just trying to point out that like you, most people stop "lurking" and actually post around Album releases or Thes One post's. Seems that ever since Sactown got his house, the post content has taken a dive... now for me personally, not so much of a big deal since a lot of the threads were for pure entertainment value and not relating to the P so much. But I did enjoy reading what new crazy idea or rant Sactown was bringing to the table. In the last 7 years there have been exactly ONE dude with that type activity... Sactown Connection. Personally when I started remodeling my house, I was very hit-n-miss on the forum for like 3 years but it was there waiting for me when I had more time. Life and responsibilities change and so do people but as far as the internet goes, I'd say this forum is pretty consistent.

I am not trying to ruffle feathers or start a divide, I am just calling it like I see it and I am sure the other long-standing forum cats like esomedina would agree. The Forum has always been like it is currently, so I guess we just wait until the next wave rolls in!

I think the lack of activity by Thes on the Boards boils down to not enough hours in the day. The fans need to realize that Thes currently handles ALL roles of the PUTS Corporation, from CEO all the way down the to mail room clerk, on top of being a husband and father.

Like SLC Head stated about forum activity, you have something on your mind, spark up a thread and we'll all jump in if it interests us. If you stick around you will definitely see the forums come alive around the next release. The Highlighter release was crazy. Everybody on, enjoying the album. PM's from Thes. It was epic. But until then, post some interesting stuff to tide us over until then.

haha, I think this might be one of the only few forums on the internet where people pre-apologise to avoid flame wars.

so, yeah I know that I am partly responsible for the lack of activity, I mean I don't always jump on just when there's an album release, or thes has posted. I'm like SLC in the regard that I'll only really post if I can think of something to say. I guess I'm doing that now.

The tour thing is naturally gonna come up from UK fans, I seem to remember Thes saying something to the effect of "if there's one place we gotta get to, it's the uk" (I can't remember the exact quote)

.and also because it's been.. maybe 4 years? I'm not sure. Also (and I'm asking a general question here) is it more the case nowadays that it's on the fans to book the shows for the act? Again, just a general question, I'm not sure how much the business has changed over the years. I remember about 3 or 4 years ago, Blackalicious playing Nottingham, I always been fond of them, and had seen them in the same venue 2 years previously performing to a big crowd, second time round it was dead.

Maybe in their case it was due to bad promotion, maybe they just been forgotten about a bit, or it could be like Thes said, that not enough people got at their local venues.

not sure where I'm going with the Blacalicious story, besides, I don't think the P should be doing a nationwide 6-7 stop tour of the UK.. not necessarily because I don't think they would be able to fill venues, but mainly cuz I don't think they have to.
I reckon people in the UK would be happy with a solitary date in London, like Jazz Cafe for example. I mean, as soon as I heard about the P playing that small london festival I snapped up tickets.. even though they weren't actually playing and someone had clearly jumped the gun.

The forum thing, I dunno where I'm going with that, I was just thinking out loud about the causes and effects of a lack of activity. I completely get that the guys (thes) are too busy to check in here that often. Maybe I'm remembering the old forum through rose tinted specs..

As for the tour though, I dunno, it's seems to have become a bit of a touchy subject, and I'm wondering the reasons why.

would the P consider doing 1 big show in London on a decent night, or would it only be worth it for them if they were booked into an actual tour?

told you I was bad at articulating myself.. and I wrote that sh!t on my phone on the bus aswell haha.

bottom line, I miss the P.. and it doesn't matter if they never release another record or set foot in the UK or Thes comes on this forum again, I'll still love em :)

they want to come, I'm sure. One comment in one interview about some knob stealing a pair of glasses isn't gonna stop them coming back.

More lack of good tour bookings. Hip hop shows took a nosedive few years ago, they may be better now (especially with guys like Soundcrash / Doctors Orders doing good stuff in London on the regs).

The show you mentioned that you got tickets for - that was actually booked, but because there was no other adequate tour booked around it, it wasn't worth their while to come over. They can't do just one big show in the UK for it to be worthwhile for them (financially it's not feasible).

So I think it's mix of poor booking situation and busyness of making and putting out three albums recently.

As for forum activity - it's always been like this. Don't ask me why?

As i stated above, i've been posting on the forum for a good few years now and have always enjoyed the wide range of topics we pick up on, there does seem to be a core group of posters (You know who you are) and there has always been some healthy debate on a wide range of topics, not all P related. I just tend to drop in eahc day and if i see a post i'd like to comment on then i do. Also i think of anything interesting to express i tend to do it here. Not sure why the fourm was down all weekend but i did feel like i missing something when i couldn't login as usual......i am sure the usual suspects will keep posting and i am sure when anything new from the P or Thes pops up the boards will light up again. I just like sharing views on life in general with everyone on here and will continue to post my thoughts (like it or not) when i feel the need. This is really the only forum i post on and i enjoy reading and reacting to you all and your thoughts. As for YoYoPo funding the forum.....love your work sir and anything i can do to help, just let me know. Peace to all.

I think that it's time to put a Donate Link up on the forum someplace... That way Po doesn't need to pay for all of us to shoot the sh!t! I've donated in the past when Po was selling his art for donations, but seriously man we don't need a prize to donate to this cause. I'll throw down whenever I can, even without a job...

Agreed! I was afraid my account had been hacked for spam and then blocked, because it didn't even come up as "404 file not found" but "403 forbidden access".

Well as a highly paid professional i feel i cannot let all the jobless throw there name in the hat without ponying up a litel something if needed......right now though i need to light joints with £50 notes.....where did i put the butler!!!
