That's the reason he landed on "Oprah" and the cover of Time Magazine last week, rather than 50 Cent or Nelly or Slug. It's not sales; it's souls.
Both 50 and Nelly have a doper delivery than Kanye at least in voice(although nelly is quite annoying sometimes), and let's face it, Slug is a better lyricist than all three and certainly with moresoul of course since people always label him as 'emo' that doens't count right? . And Slug as well sold less albums in his last 10 years than above rappers in their first months of their latest release so how is that analogy correct? It is his f***ing ego that get's him, naw, Kanye ain't one that'll get rotation by me, plenty of dudes done sh!t way before him and people ride his jock like he was the first to make a song about God etc....He ain't nothing really special to me, pisses me the f*** off when journalist write about his "gritty" beats like he's the only one doing em, f*** outta here wit that. I'd like to do an anonymous beat battle with him ,and you best believe I'm do skratch drumming on the chorus, full flavor production bitch!

Posted 20 years ago #i think kanye is better than 50cent, and so is the game. they are all in same thing when it comes to hip hop. they represent the glamorous side of things. there seems to be a lack of art form in them. although kanye does had some ability to make good beats. his problem is that comercial succsess made him a scumbag

Thank you for your contribution, but i will disagree with the main point of your thesis. -
Posted 20 years ago #read some article about how his new album is all hotness and amazing in The Guardian last week. It was wack.
I mean I like some of his stuff but "Diamonds Are Forever"? It was basically a cover song :/ -
Posted 20 years ago #My feelings on Kanye are the same I've had for Jay-Z in the last three years before the "retirement"; a suprising producer, but an undertalented lyricist. The best lyrics I've heard from him were on They Don't Know and the track Drug dealing just to get by?. I like his sample choices like Jay's, but I just don't think he ever does the butter cut justice. Not to knock Jay-Z's early lyrics, but I stand by Nas that he flipped like a IHOP special.
Then again, I think you cats should patiently peep Dangerdoom in a month or whenever they finally release it, swung an advance copy this weekend, and I think it'd put this Kanye album to shame. You Best Check Yourself, Forst You Wreck Yourself. . . -

Should be sick, I like that Danger Mouse + Gemini sound.

Expect Geedorah's strength on the mix to be very prevalent, but the track with Talib Kweli will fill that hole for the DM/G sound. -
Posted 20 years ago #I respect and think twice ofcourse before dogging on kanye, he might not be all that and a bag of old dusty records, but he is different from the whole scene thats being played out on MTV. He gets bullshizzle from all of us and he get bullshizzle from all of the radio heads. I mean cant people think twice about what he has accomplished? He get bull from us because he aint "hip hop" and he get bull from peeps who tell him that samplin' is wack. I just would want to see some support at least. He is doing what he is doin. I would rather hear kanye's homophobic beats and lyrics than, 50 cents "candy shop"...Piece

Word, I got a little pissed after I read that article. I shouldn't be doggin Kanye, rather I should be doggin the wack, dick riding journalists. I bet Kanye is a coo dude, and for real did u see what he said on TV the other day...made kinda feel...hmm more warm toward him, he got EMO'd out and was stumblin his sentences but you know, that was not the norm Kanye, it was more like the real dude underneath the ego. More power to him, just as long as I don't hear him saying what he's doing is completely original and all on his own...cause that would be kinda wack. -

its all good, i mean i seen him and heard him act like a complete bitch at times. but thats his charactor. But his music is another. How about that gold digger song? i hate thatjoint i dunno why,....but he does act strange. but his music is something showing peeps on the radio what hip hop really looks like, even though he might not be as hip hop as most, its his own way. I bet alot of record ex's have a say on what he puts out. -
Posted 20 years ago #Rec executives have ALL the say. I mean once you sign that contract they got ya by the balls. It's all good though.
