This is a thread I'm starting since the cool new Wax thread was being taken over by old wax posts and what not haha.This is a thread to post pics and what not about your favorite new wax you acquired while digging through musty dusty nasty crates at your local thrift store etc (so really old wax and not new wax, that was confusing hehe). Anyways, I will start it off with this record I got a couple weeks ago:

Its a Les Baxter record. He's a really cool composer and arranger who started experimenting with world music and using it in his arrangements, practically inventing the style known as "exotica". Really dig his sound in the 60's and 70's. - greg

Oops. I'm guilty of posting my oldies in the newbies. Good call on starting an oldies thread.

I'll post up some of my "new oldies" later. I started going through my stacks today and I found some cool stuff.

So when you say 'old'...it has to be old as in not 'new'...i.e. if its old, but new...then its classed as 'new'?

So...Evil Ed, although old...should be in the 'new wax' section...ya get me!

I know man it's all kind of confusing to me too... I'd say a good general rule, thread -wise, would be anything not of this millennium would be considered "OLD" and vice versa. What is the Board Consensus?

I was thinking pretty much the same. Having 2 or more separate threads going for vinyl pickups it's going to be hard/impossible to draw the line. Are new records only ones that are still available (which may change within hours with all the ltd ed.s these days) so posting them would give people a heads up? And wouldn't it quickly get boring if everyone posts their latest pickups/(pre-)orders from Redef, Slice-of-Spice, etc. ?
Do used records count as new or would this be determined by whether they were released within the last 5/12/25 years? What about online vs. local finds? Hell, we could even take it as far as having separate threads for different genres of music or even colored wax then... I think y'all get what I'm saying.

I for one am definitely in favor of posting everything on one thread - with the odd thread dedicated to people's 'P collections etc. on the side of course.

The other thread is all about current hip hop artists (mostly) and brand new wax people are buying of that type. This is about records that are old and generally not hip hop. This is supposed to be stuff you found in a thrift store. I guess I should have elaborated more in my first post.....I simply didn't feel right taking over the other thread about everybody's brand new wax with stuff about thrift store/garage sale finds. That why I made this thread. I thought people seemed to get it, Tibbs posted something I thought would have been better in the other thread but I don't care so I didn't say anything (aka not a big deal in the slightest); its really about people posting pics of records they like and thats it. If everybody is unhappy about it, I'll just get Po to delete the thread. But I thought NEW versus OLD was pretty clear though....Plus, that other thread was last posted in 2 years ago, I didn't even know it existed. If I had seen it I would have just posted in that.....sorry *frustrated*

I think I'm with Twelve though - one thread would be easier, and whether 'old' or 'new' wax...its all good sh!t.

No, you're fine, its no big deal dude, no worries....I had no idea this would cause such an issue lol........I was just trying to not divert someone else's thread into unintended territory by starting a separate one....

This probably doesn't happen as much now (because of discogs and all the onlne record shops), but...

I hate it when you look for a record for months and can't find it... and once you find and scoop up the one copy of the LP that you think exists in this world (and it's probably overpriced as h*ll)... you start seeing it everywhere.

Happened to me when I was 13 and I was diggin' in Sacramento for Head Hunters... couldn't find it for months, then I finally got a beat up, sun-bleached copy of it for $10+... then I started seeing it in VG++ condition everywhere for $4-$5.

Same thing happened later on with the Hubert Laws S.F. Concert LP.

LMFAO at all the confusion in this thread. I read through it and just started laughing honestly because there is such a deep debate on the threads concensus on whats new and old.. i love how theres critical thinking even when its not needed hahah. deep thinkers :p

Also got the movie Pi, 2 Stereolab CDs and a Boards of Canada CD ("Twoism")... Never really bought any Boards of Canada before, so I'm not sure what to expect, but I've heard good things.
