Posted 20 years ago #This is a comedy/rant thread.
So the story begins around Oct. when my dad tells me he needs another pair for his ballroom dancing group... and hes recruiting me and my sister.
Now hes paying for my tuition, and seeing as i only do okay in college (2.9 GPA, but will be better this semester :-)) i figure i owe him a little.
And its his money hes wasting for these lessons, so hey! Why not, might help me out one day... yeah.
I find out that we have one of those stupid classes on a thurs. Which thursday? Oh you guessed it, right when PUTS is coming to town.
Now heres where the sh!t hits the fan:
So i go to tell my dad i won't be showing up, and the convo goes like this:
Me: Hey i'm letting you know i'm going to a concert Thursday, these guys never come here so... yeah.
Dad: No.
Me: What?
Dad: You heard me, you aren't going you are going to dance you promised me.
Me: I promised to stay in until another pair came in and they came in last week!
----Lots of yelling at how i am a bad son and how terrible i am BLAH BLAH----
Me: Oh well then what are you going to do if i don't go FOR ONE f***ing TIME.
Dad: Well. Pull your tuition.
Oh yeah. He did play that card. And the thing is hes one of those clowns that NEVER bluffs ever.
So heres what i want to say: f*** you! f*** your damn ballroom dancing you--- AHGHp[egaggnop[wg[gn....
Sorry. *breathes*. I don't even know where the f*** this comes from.
I don't drink or do any drugs, I've had 1 detention ever, and a horseshit underage possesion of alcohol ticket.
Seems like i can't catch a f***ing break.
So Thes, Mike, wish i could come... *sigh*
This thread is now for making fun of my ballroom dancing father. And your stories of missing favorite bands for retarded crap. -
Posted 20 years ago #dawg. That is terrible.
Your dad sacrifices money and time for you to send you to school and all he wants is some ballroom dancing sh!t out of it. Do it and be happy to do it. One day he wont be with you and you would gladly trade in everything Hip Hop related to get that one day back.
Family over PUTS. -
Posted 20 years ago #guess what, me and doc agree on something. amazing.

Dude i go to a community college. Tuition is like... 3 Grand a year. I could pay for it if i got a second job. (I don't want to because i would like to take classes full time @ college, not be part time, i get insurance that way)
Hes already told me transfering to a real college will be me taking a loan myself. So... yeah, oh and i HAVE to commute, or else he won't co-sign .
Also; he asks me to do things for his business, at well the most inconvient times. I'm not pissy doing them for him, but ballroom dancing... missing one day is not a big deal.
And thats where my anger comes from. We don't bond or even talk at Ballroom dancing (we have different partners so... yeah.) We don't talk about it outside of the place... and its only one day! ONE DAY! And if i don't show it means he saves money! The pair that was "missing" comes regularly now... so i don't see why i have to continue. AND with finals coming up... theres no way in hell i'm going to get stuck wasting four hours of study time on this.
I don't even really know why i posted this, i guess i just needed to vent.
To Boneunit and the other guys - I will soon be joining you, and i should have specifically said that.
I'll have half of what you have though... since i was at a community college for a bit.
Probably part of why i am pissed at him. He was making something like 100,000 a year at one point and put no money aside for me or my sister even though he could have. I think he got himself a Mercedes around that time, which i understand, he wants to get... but you know as a parent its kids first, you last. I hate to say it, cause it does sound selfish, but i will never do things the way my dad did... i mean i already started saving for college for my kids, lol. Theres other things i would like to mention, but you guys will think I'm just trying to get your sympathy. (Which i could care less about)
Edit - damn i do sound whiny. Whatev. I still don't think its bad to miss one day of ballroom dancing to do something i want to do. -
Posted 20 years ago #you can go to ballroom every week but PUTS only come to town once a year max? I say go to the show, but just be real nice to your dad before and after. I don't know him but I doubt he'll stop your tuition over such a minor, he wants you to have an education right

Yeah... but he doesn't bluff. Honest to god. So I'm more than worried about defying him...
I heard that someone was recording the show...? I think... I'll just ask for the video or something. -

Nice story

Posted 20 years ago #Goddamn I'm glad to be out of my parents house...reading that story makes me think of all the blowouts we had. Sounds to me like your pops is more concerned with having the control rather than you learning a step or two. You should feel lucky that you don't have to pay for school though. I tried to pay my way through community college & the only thing I couldn't afford was the time for the classes. To work full time & go to school full time is a crux f'real, but at the same time I am who i am today because of my past experience & hardships... hope you get to see the P rock, that sh!t is worth all the rath & scorn of any man!

It is still 3 grand you get and you dont have to get second job. When I started community my dad didnt give me one red cent except for books.
Until you are a father you will never truly understand your dad, and when you do understand it will change your life. Help your dad out man. Come on, who cares that PUTS is in town. PUTS is just 2 dudes that rap.
To put it like this, what are you 20? 22? Your dad has sacrificed his time, money and big parts of his LIFE for you. He did it with love and without whining about it because he loves you. Im sure you can "sacrifice" seeing PUTS without whining about it.
one day you will see. -
Posted 20 years ago #in my experience so far, it seems to be an inalienable truth that mums and dads tend to know best, even though at the time it seems like they are being absolute b*stards and don't understand.
didn't think i would say this too often either, i agree with doc about fam and all.... -
