but seriously, pick up a used sampler and start learning how to hear loops when they fly by on records. I recomend an old gemini or numark mixer with a built in sampler. Ebay got loads of em. Next start stealing everyone in your family's vinyl! -
Posted 21 years ago #oh i got access to plenty of the black stuff, which is cool. But i'll check out some gear and see what i can do with it.

Posted 21 years ago #word..?!! What's up with some KPM or DeWolfe library records from the local boot sale playa? Old uncle thes is always down for the trade!

Posted 21 years ago #well, not much money to buy a sampler or a better mixer,
right now im down to the basics, 2 tables, mixer, mic, 3 crates of vinyl and looking for free drum beat programs on the net.
the original plan was to get my tables, then after that i would hook up my old drum set in the bathroom and make all the beats on that, record them on the puter, and lay down the loops and cuts over the beat, but shortly after i got my tables i had to sell my drums to pay the car insurance,,,,
so my best bet right now is to find a free program on the net for tha beats!
im not looking to make any albumn or get any street fame, i just want to make some beats!
i downloaded that fruity loops whathaveyou studio but damn it doesnt let you save the beat uless you register it for like 50 bucks, ive been trying to crack the registry, no luck yet.....
, i just want to hit a real snare right about now! it would make things much easier if i had my drums!!! <--r.i.p.

Posted 21 years ago #If you wanna pirate that sh!t, just download limewire and grab it from there. Not that I'm promoting piracy at all.
Its wrong. Really wrong.
But for software its fine. Those motherfuckers make like 5000% markup on their products anyway. -
Posted 21 years ago #Yeah that shits all programed in India by child labor for about 3 cents. Funny, I never thought twice about using a cracked version of Photoshop and Illustrator because it costs like 1000 dollars. mf's. But plus don't bootleg my 15$ album!
Car insurance in Cali will kill you!
Ya... you know even if you have a computer program you can loop stuff on, it still is great to have a little hand triggered sampler as part of your phono pre-amp stage, so that when you are sitting around listening to records, you can just hit the button if you hear a loop. Then if it sounds dope actually looped, you can go through the trouble of sampling it in. More importantly, when you have a beat halfway done and you are looking to layer something else on top of it, you can try out different samples right there as the beat plays through the mixer, you know change the pitch until you find a horn or something that fits, then sample it in, etc. It will increase your productivity tenfold. All PUTS songs start out as a loop on my gemini sampler
so for anyone looking to get thier production set up in order I highly recomend something like this. I purchased my Gemini in 1992 and I STILL start every beat out on it. almost 15 years strong on that piece of crap!!! Long live the robo-sample
If anyone is wondering exactly what I am talking about here it is :
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7308759826
These things or any variation of them sell all the time for 20 bucks on EBAY.
Numark also makes a model just like this as did many other companies.
Just a thought as I know back in the day this is how pretty much all of our favorite producers got started.
BTW I still use the phono preamp in the gemini because for some reason it makes things sound way more crunchy than hgih quality phono pre's. It could be the crappy, distortion prone nature of the op-amps in it but, damn...magic in that box for me.

Posted 21 years ago #That gemini is the exact one I have been lookin for! My man used to have one back in the day.
I have found it twice at like pawn shops, but neither one worked.
I see these types of mixers on ebay, but i never want to buy them for fear it is busted and sh!t.
