Ok, I got a Dell Inspiron Laptop (yeah sh!tty I know!) and Stanton Turntables, when I plug the laptop to MY decks to record mixes etc. all's good.
BUT
when I seem to plug it in to any kind of system with a Vestax mixer, it gives off a really horrible Radio Frequency sounding noise, kinda like a mains hum. Seems to stop when I unplug the laptop from the mains, but this piece of wank only lasts about 25 minutes, even from a full charge.
Example: Played a set recently (luckily only a small bar and pretty empty so it didn't cock it up too much). Had 1200's and took my stanton mixer. My mixer's output was split, one going into the PA's amp, the other going into a Vestax 06, going to my laptop so I could record the set on Soundforge. When I stopped playing for the night, I realised that it was giving it a horrendous hum (luckily not enough to notice when there's music playing).
Example 2: When I used to plug it into my man dem's 05 Pro in the UK it did the same thing, even if it was plugged into the line in and we were watching movies on it... Thought it could have been his setup but works with my mate's 06 in Florida, since I moved from UK...
Anyone got any ideas (apart from buy a newer, nicer piece of kit?! Believe me, I'd like to) or know a specific probelm with Vestax mixers (or, more likely, Dell Laptops!)?
Can you get standalone filters for this or anything?

i have a vestex mixer (can't remember the model, its old as hell) and they have shotty rca jacks and often the phono ins will go.
this sounds like processor hum. i had a compaq that would do this. i upgraded the RAM and it wasn't much of an issue after that. -

Posts: 63Posted 18 years ago #i had a similar humm noise with my asus Laptop, turned out it was the power pack from the charger of the latop, try unplugging the battery pack.
I want to get this thing called a ground loop isolator, whichs supposely breaks the electric current and stops the buzz????
still gotta one to be sure if it worsk or not... -

Posts: 524Posted 18 years ago #It also doesn't help that you live in Orlando where power is shotty because of the lack of good bedrock and water everywhere(I used to live in Winter Park). Next time try crossing the power chords(laptop, turntables, and mixer) on a 90 degree angle over the audio chords, this may help a lot or not at all.
