A tangent influenced by a few things:
While I'm not a huge fan of Starbucks, it's one of the only joints on my campus where I can get some joe. Printed on a recent cup was a submitted blurb about how people shouldn't learn about historical music through modern sampling. It got me thinking...
Though I agree to a certain extent, I would argue that I would never know about some great old music if it weren't for sampling. For example, would I seek out "San Francisco Nights" by the Animals if it weren't for PUTS? Doubtful.
It would be quite an undertaking, but I'd love to uncover all the songs that have inspired PUTS material. Compared to other acts, PUTS really digs for some obscure stuff (as depicted in the Stepfather with Thes buying records in Mexico).
I don't have any turntables and therefore can't really dig, but I think it's cool how, when digging through the forum, the community is still pretty secretive about the songs behind the songs.
The stuff I have found I have made into an iTunes playlist, but there is still much more to find, listen to, and enjoy!

but yo syrac12 you tryin to personal message the names of the songs you have on your itunes playlist to me.... keepin the samples secret

Posts: 508Posted 18 years ago #i would've certainly never of heard of gabor szabo if it weren't for PUTS and i thought i knew alot of jazz guitar dudes, and these days somebody samples something then 5 minutes later some dudes put it on a comp or has it up on ebay, taking all the joy out of it if you ask me !:-)
