Tres has now partnered with No Sleep Recordings (a New York based label) and Soundtable (an online record store in Japan) to release a series of exclusive, limited 12". These releases will be limited pressings and will only be available on a first come, first serve basis. Below is information about these releases, and how to order:
Vol. 1 (TSN-001)
Rakim: The Cellar EP
The Cellar EP is a collection of three unheard Rakim sessions and instrumentals; previously unreleased and limited only to this 300 pressed vinyl. Only 200 copies of this release will be available via mail order, so please get your pre-orders in early to avoid missing this opportunity. This record will not be repressed.
"Man With A Gun". Recorded by Rakim in 2002, this song was done strictly for an underground buzz 12" that was never released. Featuring D.J. Slyce (1997 DMC USA Champ) on the scratches, this gem is exclusive to this limited vinyl and will never be released in any other format.
"Once Upon A Rhyme" (Original Version). Recorded by Rakim in 1995, this song/version was a last minute deletion from the "18th Letter" LP. Cuts are also provided by D.J. Slyce. Again, this is the first time this song is available to consumers, and will only be released on this limited 12".
BONUS TRACK "Show Me Love" (Rugged Version). Recorded by Rakim in 1996, this version had to be remixed for the "18th Letter" LP, due to sample clearance issues. This will be the only vinyl release of this recording, but the track will be featured on the forthcoming Nick Wiz "Cellar Sounds: Vol. 1" 2CD to be released in 2008.
All songs are mastered by the legendary Tony Dawsey at Masterdisk Studios, NYC and are pressed in the USA for the highest vinyl quality.
All songs are produced by Nick Wiz. Nick Wiz has worked with Rakim since 1995, producing songs on both 1997's "18th Letter" and 1999's "The Master" LPs. Nick Wiz is also currently executive producing Rakim's long-awaited "Seventh Seal" LP, on which he is producing several tracks. In addition to Rakim, Wiz is best known for production for mid-Nineties heavyweights; The Cellar Dwellas, Pudgee Tha Phat Bastard, Chino XL, Darc Mind, Mad Skillz, Chubb Rock and many more. He is currently putting the finishing touches on his debut 2CD release: "Cellar Sounds: Vol. 1", which is a compilation of unreleased demos, remixes, and 12" only material recorded between 1993 and 1997.
All scratches are provided by D.J. Slyce. Previous to winning the USA DMC in 1997, Slyce had added co-production and scratches to many of Nick Wiz's productions for The Cellar Dwellas, Mad Skillz, Shabaam Sahdeeq and others. Slyce will also be adding production on the new Rakim LP.
