The Linn LM-1 Drum Computer,released in 1980, was the first drum machine with the ability to sample. By the way MPC-60(the first MPC) came out in 1988 if you wanna talk specific dates busta.    an MPC is not essential for beginners learning how to sample for the first time and try and make a beat out of it.
   
   some records, turntables and a recording device is all that required for beginners!!!
   
   your trying to confuse em with all the drum machine bullshizzle before they even understand the concept of sampling and how it works.
   
   i own a MPC2000xl which i use every day, and my beats speak for themselves.

   I understand that the samples would sound the same no matter what device youre using to record your samples. However, I was just responding to the comment that with Reason he could " flip some sh!t harder than you ever could with your mpc". I just can't think of any real talented producers who would prefer composing a beat by arranging kicks and snares on screen with a mouse over really feelin the boom bap when you hit the pads of an MPC. Just my predilection i suppose.............

   9th Wonder anyone? Beats on the Listening and Minstrel Show were all fruityloops. Murs 3:16, that's fruityloops, I think it's all about finding that sample, and taking that concept to where it needs to go. I can't afford anything but records right now so I'm stuck with fruity and most people don't even know I'm using it until I tell them. To each his own I guess.

   "To each his own I guess" is right SpeakEasy. That is what it is fundamentally about: using what is available to make something else spectacular. Can't afford an instrument? use your Daddy's turntable. Can't afford an MPC? Well use what you can get your hands on whether that be fruityloops, SP1200, Wurlitzer or whatever. Half the heads don't bother asking how the music is made, and those who do probably won't give a funk so long so long as you're putting out that musical dope.

   Yeah it really is just your preference although I find it slightly funny that so many cats on this forum argue against drum machines and in favor of fruity loops (you do realize that the P use MPCs and SPs right?)

   who argues against drum machines on this forum? fruityloops kinda sucks in my opinion, especially if you use all the preset samples it comes with.
