Well, I am officially tired.
This all started months ago, when I had to begin pulling out the old master cassettes for the next step. We had decided to do the 10 year anniversary show but we didn't want to come out and just rock for y'all like we usually do. I mean, we love doing the show rockers and getting the house really moving during our set but there is always one fan who is yelling for us to play a song that we would never normally do at a show. There is always the dude yelling "JULY THIRD!! JULY THIRD!!" or "CHOLLO DADS DO CHOLLO DADS!" and we would never do this songs because they just don't fit in to the vibe of what works at a hip hop show. Usually you try to keep it uptempo, you know, keep the party moving. The last thing i want to do is rap about getting hit by a van. But still ,we know that nevertheless that has left a few cats disappointed over the years.
So when the idea to do the show came around we decided to rack our brains for all the songs that people ahve asked us to do that we never do. The top ones were July third, Chollo Dads, Suite For beaver, Wannabes. We figured since we were celebrating our ten years, we would just go album by album and rock the top 7 or 8 joints on each record.
The only problem was that when we made those songs, we never anticipated performing them, so there were no instrumentals. Which meant i had to go back and meticulously transfer and resurrect ten years worth of multitracks to get the instrumentals ready for the show. Then they all had to be edited together in a way that it wouldn't bore people who weren't hardcore fans to death. And then, most importantly, we had to learn to perform the lyrics to all those songs we hadn't rapped since they were recorded. It was no small task. Meanwhile I was making those posters and coordinating the film crew along with everything else and trying to be a dad to a newborn. TOUGH CITY.
I'm not complaining. If it wasn't for you guys I would be just another dude sitting around doing something else. I am honored to have the work to do on behalf of all the fans who have stuck by us. And, aside from various random things the show went off and I still can't believe we rapped for an hour and 50 minutes pretty solidly. The film is going to look incredible and i'm glad it was captured because we are never going to perform that set again. It was a one night only special occasion.
And the good thing is it finally forced me to transfer all the old masters and I discovered all sorts of random unreleased stuff - well more than enough for two more american men volumes.
Anyways, if you cam out, thank you and if you have been up for us, thank you thank you thank you. straight up. To my man Dollar Bill, YoYoPo, William H, Grand Finalex, Dusty Digging (POST UP HOMEBOY LET ME KNOW YOU GOT HOME TO IL SAFE) and everyone else here on the forum. I love all you cats like family.
Here's to the next ten years!
Humbly,
Thes One.
Thank You for Coming out on Friday, and thank you all for 10

Posted 17 years ago #The energy you and Double K were giving the crowd was extraordinary!
The double microphones, the extensive song list, the reaction of the crowd throughout the show, the show posters, the long lines etc. it was all there.
This show was a testament on how much hard work & success PUTS has achieved during the past ten years.
So I thank YOU and Double K for a job well done.
I can't wait for the DVD of this performance. -
Posted 17 years ago #Thank you Thes and KK for rockin that sh!t once again.
As you were saying at the show Thes you did a few tracks that you don't often perform live. It was dope to hear a lot of The Next Step tracks and I just about lost it when i saw Chollo Dad comin live. Youth Explosion, We'll Be There ,The Breakdown, Empty Bottles of Water, so many tracks that i had been waitin to see live you did at the El Rey. All the usual tracks were liver than ever too and Hang Loose was funk on a whole new level, that sh!t was outrageous when Jazmak and everybody was on stage dancin . I cant wait to cop this dvd so i can relive the funk!
Thanks for always bringin that real sh!t -
Posted 17 years ago #a dad again thes? congratulations!
I think everyone who couldn't make the show would be really pissed we missed it right now if it wasn't for the coming dvd, it sounds so good.
double k and thes: thanks & happy christmas! -
Posted 17 years ago #yo thes and double k thank you so much for rockin an almost 2 hour set that sh!t was amazing! i realize it cant be easy remembering all those lyrics and lacing together the beats for a one night show like that, but that sh!t was flawless and fun! to another 10!

Right after the show got out my ass drove from The El Rey to Santa Monica Blvd and Virgil to snag those 10 aniversery prints. Then I checked out of the hotel at 3am, dropped off the Rental at 4am, and checked in my flight at 6am after waitin' in line for an hour. feeeewwwwwww......
Thanks for the festivities boys. I feel refreshed, as I always do after your shows. It's like you guys are and always will be the fule to my fire. I wish you and double all the best in the new year and hope to see ya'll soon.
