So over the break I got into a warm (not heated) argument about who had the better catalog: The P or The Beatles.
I won't get into it too much, but it created an interesting exercise in music discussion, discussing the P against some of the greatest groups of all time. I have yet to find a group with a more prolific and solid set of albums and releases as the P. The end conclusion is this: The P is the greatest group of all time. If you ever find yourself in this situation, how would YOU defend your argument?

Posts: 3,255Posted 17 years ago #Sounds like a discussion I would've loved hearing. The Beatles pioneered a lot of musical directions, so did James Brown... or even Mozart. I think the P are pioneers as well, and I thank them for it by listening to them (almost) daily.
Those discussions are always a good time, but the key to keeping it cool is understanding that comparing two different genres leaves a few gaps. It's like comparing a King Cobra (the snake, not the drink, ya'll) to a Pitbull, or "Silence of the Lambs" to "Up in Smoke." They're all bad-asses in their own way.
Who has the better catalog? I say record how you feel about the Beatles now, and then record how you feel about the P in 2038. I don't know.
I'm trying to think of some relevant song title matchups:
"Ob la di, Ob la da" vs. "Yo"
"When I'm 64" vs. "The Ultimate 144"
"Day Tripper" vs. "The Trip"
"Rain" vs. "Acid Raindrops"
"Give Peace A Chance" (not Beatles, but close enuff) vs. "Give Love A Chance"
"Yesterday" vs. "Letter to the Old School"
"A Hard Day's Night" vs. "SF Knights"
"Hello Goodbye" vs. "Step In"/"Step Bacc"
Maybe... "In My Life" vs. "Reflections"
I just think it'd funny to see KK and Thes with "mop tops" or doing some psychadelic full-length movie. "Yellow Submarine" vs. An extended "The Wiz" vid?? -
