Posts: 95Posted 17 years ago #So RJ is opening for the Disco Biscuits in chicago tonight and I am going but I cant find sh!t about what his show will be like. Has anyone seen RJ yet on this tour, or does anyone know anything about his part of the show. -

Posts: 95Posted 17 years ago #RJ was dope! He had four turntables and a drum machine/samopler that i didnt recognize with a screen that played old seventies action films and what his hands were doing. the Disco Biscuits were good too, but i left early cause it was just too much. -

Haha nice, that sounds awesome, unfortunately I've never seen RJD2 live. But I first got into him from his Your Face or Your Kneecaps mix, excellent stuff. -

Forgot to mention it was his debut mix he made. This is full of funk and soul, lots of drumbreaks as well, definitely a worthy listen. When you listen to a few more of his albums you should check out the RJD2 samples lp, I think it was released a few years back with some of his breaks he used for his main tracks like "Rain"

Posts: 1,874Posted 17 years ago #I think RJ totally fell off, from a hip hop head point of view. I loved his first few releases, but third hand was a whole different kind of thing. Fair enough, like shadow i guess he wanted to diversify a little bit, i don't grudge him that, but i think the new stuff isn't anywhere near the quality and uniqueness of his older releases. 3.5/5 is generous... -

I wish he hadn't decided to drop the hip-hop from his recording career, but he obviously still loves it since he performs straight hip-hop shows full of funk and soul and turntables and samplers and all that sh!t.. 3.5 is generous. I give it a 2. I can understand wanting to change your recording style and all of that and change what your doin, but look at madlib, he has used every kind of live instrumentation and digital music too, and he still puts out the funk. -

Yet to come across it, but I'll see if I can get a copy of it somewhere, by the sounds of it i'll be looking in the bargain bin section.
