Hi all,
I don't usually post up on these forums but this question has been bugging me for awhile.
The drums on The Breakdown by PUTS on the O.S.T album always managed to make me go crazy as to how they did it. I know this is a pretty open question but does anyone have any advice on how to get drums rolling like that? Particularly the hi-hats. To me they sound perfect on that track.
Or if anyone by off-chance knows the break in that tune it would be appreciated as well.
Cheers!

I think the problem most people have with programing hi-hats is that they don't sample enough. I subscribe to the Premier school of thought that you should sample lots of different drum hits from the same break and chop up different pieces. Like sometimes, heads just grab the first "chick, chick" hi hat; and that's cool to use, but to add flavor, find a hit that's a little more swung, has different accent/intonation, and make sure to grab any time you can hear the air in the hi hat.
