Yo, in general I say f*ck the BBC, they're a propoganda institution, but this article is pretty interesting. I'd like to hear some of this African hip hop. Any of you guys listen to stuff from Africa?

there is a looooooad of hip hop in Africa (i mean how big is it??) - I got a couple of CDs from people been over there. I got one by Daz Baba from Tanzania which is a bit erm... weak, production-wise but you really get a vibe of the energy down there, so its good cos its not just some US-copy hip hop. South Africa has a big scene no doubt - I got one CD by 'T' called... er, *goes to find it* - Soul Aqua. Quite dope, more polished sound and good emcee, especially when he flips between english and afrikans its nice. There's always more well-known guys like Emmanual Jal too.
You want more info I'd check out this book by Patrick Neate called 'Where You're At' - it has a bunch of chapter about him in different places and how hip hop has affected them and it has a big section on South Africa, especially the infamous Dead Prez incident. Good read! -

One of the only places I can get real info on current world events is usually from the BBC. It seems like most the US stations want to report their opinion instead of facts... Don't believe the Hype

Posts: 1,874Posted 16 years ago #Yeah it's pretty harsh, but I believe it... I'm a placard holding left wing firebrand though... I just think the bbc is a government mouthpiece, they report selectively, and no one goes against the grain, but that's like all mainstream media so what can you do.
As for the african hip hop, thanks for the tips, i'll definitely check that book out, it sounds interesting.

And WTF the bbc is the worst for propaganda , they are a pro government media foruM!
look at how they report on the DPRK , all propaganda , i've personally send the BBC ten emails about blatant PRO US EMPIRE stories
they are ridiculous and im a license fee payer and I havent had one single written reply or email ! they are a JOKE

they put on the shows man , i dont think i was at that show , however it would have been pretty funny to see that !
Im usually really intoxicated at the puts shows and dont remember much the next day .
I'll def be at the next one though , Im in glasgow now by the way !

Posts: 1,874Posted 16 years ago #Yo definitely. Me and a few like minded mates were trying to sort out a gig up here for the P, we were thinking about hiring out ABC 2, the smaller room in ABC. I saw Lif in there a couple of years ago and it was a perfect space. But the cost and logisitics of gettin the P over are too much for us on our own, so we were gonna wait and see if they do a gig down south at the Jazz Cafe, and then try and piggyback a gig up here on the back of that. But I'll let you know if I hear anything about us trying to sort some sh!t out. GLASGOW LOVES THE P!! -

Posts: 44Posted 16 years ago #Yo man my mate runs the studio warehouse in eastvale place , and its £750 to hire the place for a party , so you think prices the place is huge , you could get enough to cover costs n that ! abc charges more dont they ?
my mate is the sound engineer and are friends with dj krashslaughta!
So hit me up man and if the price is right then we can swing a deal , also we tried to get the wefunk european tour there but there was some finance issues and they couldnt make it!
So let me know about sh!t and see whats up!
I also know a few people who run sh!t , like the artschool I have the connect for that too , maybe shouldnt cost us anything to get the P in there !

If we can pick a cheaper venue, then it'll minimise the risk i suppose. Think that we'll still need to wait and see when they're gonna come to the Jazz Cafe though. I'll send you an email to your address, and keep the communication up. It'd be so awesome to contribute to sorting out a gig...
Krashslaughta is awesome, I didn't realise he was a local lad... I've got an amazing mix by him on rotation at the moment.
The guy who I'm trying to sort it out through djs all over the place in glasgow, the buff, abc, he's doing the club noir halloween night tomorrow too. He goes by the name of frantic ant... You probably know him too. DJs in glasgow all seem to know eachother.
