Sports Illustrated's annual NBA predictions can be found in this week's magazine, and once again you can blame me for them. Here are my explanations for why I think ...
? The Celtics will beat the Lakers in the NBA Finals.
It isn't easy to pick between the five title contenders -- the defending champion Lakers, Celtics, Cavaliers, Spurs and Magic (that being the hierarchy as things look today) all made big moves to improve over the summer, and any one of them would be a credible choice to win in June.
I'm picking the Celtics because they should be the best defensive team in the league based on the return of Kevin Garnett, the arrival of Rasheed Wallace, the continuing improvement of Rajon Rondo -- who could emerge as the top defensive point guard this season -- and the Tom Thibodeau schemes that make the most of Kendrick Perkins, Paul Pierce, Marquis Daniels and others.
This Celtics team has the capacity to be deeper and more reliable than the champion of two years ago. Wallace should be an upgrade over James Posey and the same should apply to Daniels over Tony Allen, who was third on the team in minutes off the bench two years ago. They still have sniper Eddie House and a useful second big man in reserve in Glen Davis, who proved in the playoffs last year that he can hit big shots -- a luxury from your ninth man. Unlike last season, the Celtics also have two expiring contracts belonging to Allen and Brian Scalabrine that could be dealt in January or February for a backup point guard or additional length in the frontcourt.
Cs gonna win the Chip, and SI agrees with me(swipe)

Posted 16 years ago #It's going to be a tough year being a Pistons fan, although I'm more of a college hoops fan (Go Spartans!).
My 2 cents - Lakers and Celtics in the finals, the team with home court advantage takes the 'ship. -
Posted 16 years ago #spurs r the only lakers rivals in the west. celts have to face and beat orl or bust. i cant wait for the marquee matchups this season. melo vs kobe, KG vs howard, LBJ vs kobe or wade. agent 0 is finally back w/ his bitchass...i just hope everyone stays healthy enuff to play. heres to a great season!

Posted 16 years ago #Celtics vs Lakers? I don't think so; not if other teams stay healthy. I believe the only reason the Lakers made it that far was because too many teams had key players injured. I mean, c'mon, the Rockets without Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady were very close to beating them. If the Spurs had Manu healthy they would have put up a fight, as well as the Celtics. Celtics probably would have been in the Finals if Garnett were healthy, and beaten the Lakers cause Garnett dominates Gasol. Anyways, if the Spurs stay healthy, they have just as good a chance of being in the Finals as the Lakers.
Anyways, listening to Carried Away and with each listen it grows more and more on me. -

lotta ifs there. i will take the lakeshow over any team on any night--celts have a great squad, only team that can halt another championship run. and thats how it should be.
