I was listening to a remix of Redman - "Whatever Man" by the Vinyl Reanimators. For those that aren't aware, the Vinyl Reanimators are a crew out of Boston (and surrounding area) who did a bunch of production in the mid/late 90's, including a slew of remix EP's that were pressed independently.
Anyhow - this remix sounded familiar and it took me a while to establish where I had heard the sample - turns out it is almost identical to "The Cat"
VR -
It's not the first time that PUTS and VR have flipped the same sample:
VR -
I know that utilising the same source isn't particularly rare (pretty sure that classic Don Blackman track has been used a few times), but I was curious to know if VR & PUTS had ever crossed paths, particularly as they both originate from the "diggin' in the crates" school of production and may have traded records.
Vinyl Reanimators are pretty much out of the production game these days (check a good feature on DJ Shame here - http://www.dustandgrooves.com/2009/09/dj-shame.html) which is a shame as they were pretty dope (my favourite production is the very hard to find remix of Tim Dog - promo only 12"). However, it's great to see that PUTS are going from strength to strength !
