The answer your first question...it's a bit interesting actually.
The current data, taken over the last couple decades, has confirmed the fact that the universe is expanding. That means every point is getting further from every other point.
But that's not the mindf*ck. The expansion is accelerating(!). That means the rate at which the universe is expanding is getting faster and faster! (We still dont know exactly how, there are a bazillion questions we havent answered about this, like: 'What is causing the expansion, what is the universe expanding into, etc')
That means though, eventually, the sky will be completely pitch black. The universe will be expanding so fast, that light well be SO redshifted by the time it gets to Earth, it will be blackness.
P.S. Redshift - Its like when a firetruck passes by, the sound goes "wee woo WEE WOO WEE WOOO!!!! WEE WOo weeeeee wooooo" The pitch of the sound is higher when its coming toward you, and lower when its going away from you. Its like that with the light, the galaxies will be moving away from you, so the frequency is lowered, and with light, the frequency represents the color. It will be so low, that you wouldn't be able to see it at all.[/i]
Is there any prediction as to when that might be? The time where there is no more light?
