An often played band on my ipod. Totally underrated band in my opinion. Politically aware, well constructed lyrics and production, great delivery, hard hitting yet great flow.
What do you reckon?

In fact, it was one of the double k downloads from pl70 that got me back into them.
Geto boys and 2 live crew were amongst the first non new York crews i listened to as a boy (along with ice t and kid frost)

Also think the RIAA and the PMRC need to suck it. Per Wikipedia, about their self-titled album:
The original Def American pressing is the only WEA-distributed album with the following warning in addition to the standard explicit-lyrics sticker:
"Def American Recordings is opposed to censorship. Our manufacturer and distributor, however, do not condone or endorse the content of this recording, which they find violent, sexist, racist, and indecent.”
Due to the controversial nature of the lyrics, especially in the songs "Mind of a Lunatic" and "Assassins", the album's originally intended distributor, Geffen Records, and CD manufacturer Sony DADC, which manufactured Geffen's releases, refused to have any part in the release. After Geffen terminated its manufacturing and distributing deal with Def American, Rick Rubin arranged alternative distribution with Warner Bros. Records, which agreed to distribute the album and all following Def American releases with product manufacturing by WEA Manufacturing. Marketing for the album was handled by Warner Bros. sister label Giant Records. -

Posts: 1,879Posted 12 years ago #Yeah I grew up on that sh!t too! Love me some "Mind is playing tricks on me", but really I delved as deep as my pockets would allow me too with them. From Geto boys releases to Solo stuff from Scarface and Bushwick Bill(no Willie D though), I do gotta say that as teens, my friends and I we were very intrigued with the whole Bushwick getting his eye shot out story and that DEF pulled me into their music curiosity-wise. "We Can't Be Stopped" was easily their best, most complete album they released imho and as far as Solo works, Scarface was a beast and the best of the bunch, very unique voice and flow. They were as rough as it comes but their raw content was par for the times I'd say... Where it felt like it was a war on censorship and everyone was trying to be the edgiest.
Like A La Carte, I used to listen to Geto Boys, 2 Live Crew, 2nd II None, NWA/Easy E, Ice Cube/Da Lench Mob, Public Enemy on a constant rotation back in the day... which after looking back on it, was probably the reason I strayed from Rap music for a good 5 years or so. I should have been getting my Gangstarr, ATCQ, De La Soul on but had no idea, literally, so I got into Grunge mainly through High School and realized all the Fresh sh!t that I was clueless about until around '00-'01.

Posts: 262Posted 12 years ago #I freaking LOVE the Geto Boys. On the whole, I think 'Til Death Do Us Part is their best LP. It doesn't have the classic standout tracks of We Can;t Be Stopped (Mind Playing Tricks and, also my favourite track, Gotta Let Your Nuts Hang) but it bangs from start to end.
There's also Scarface's debut solo album which is a total masterpiece.
