Posted 16 years ago #What's good my P fans, i'm in the market, so to speak, for a scratch mixer around the $200-$300 range. Does anyone have any specific models they recommend, or should I just go with the standard PMC-05 pro? Has anyone had any experience with the 05 pro they could share? And help/suggestions are appreciated.
Peace! -
Posted 16 years ago #I've owned 3 05 Pro IIs, and have only had one of the x-faders go bad on it. I still have one today and love it. It's built like a tank and has smooth faders and good curve control. It only has 2 band EQs, but if you're primarily a hip hop DJ/turntablist, it will suite you fine.
The 05 Pro 3 is another good choice as well. Going rate for a used Pro II is $150-175 USD, which is below your budget. Then you'll have some extra $$ for records/needles whatever!! -
Posted 16 years ago #I'd stay away from the 05 proIII. Everything you see with VCA on a Vestax listing, STAY AWAY. Vestax got bought by a Chinese company that has been cutting corners on construction... Headphone jacks that come loose, up faders that scrape against the faceplate, etc. I'd recommend finding an 05proII, 07pro, or 06pro(preVCA). If can't find any of those, you could cop an ecler nuo2.

Posted 16 years ago #Thanks for the major help guys. I didn't know about the whole VCA thing....thanks for the heads up birdflu.
Also, I found a gently used 07pro going for 175, should I take the deal? Is there anything I need to know about construction flaws like the 05proiii VGA? -
Posted 16 years ago #on the real, I can't speak for how "gently" that 07 was used, but I've had my 07 for 5 years now, and I love that beast. It's all analog, got 3 band eq, session in, 2 mic channels, 1/4" and RCA master out... basically, whether you wanna DJ for an MC, work with another DJ (and his setup without using one of your line channels), or be able to have a PA and near-field monitor setup; and you don't wanna jump up to a Rane or Allen and Heath, the 07 is the one to get.

Posted 16 years ago #also, Vestax stopped making the 07 well before they got bought out. it's VERY solidly built to last.

Posted 16 years ago #Yo, thanks a lot birdflu, you answered a lot of my questions there. I jumped on that 07pro, and it's going to get here on Wednesday, ill post screens/impressions if anyone is interested.

Please do. I'd like to check the Xel-vibe. -
Posted 16 years ago #Hows the mixer going Xell?
Once I've sorted my needles out a new mixer will be next on the agenda but its not urgent.
On my current mixer if I'm doing like crabs and flares and crazy multi click cuts the crossfader nob rises up and comes close to coming off.
I dont want to glue it on coz then I wont be able to open up my mixer.
Its a penny and giles fader.
Anything I can do? -

I've been using my 07 pro for just over a decade now
I'm sure if I would've treated the thing nicer lugging it around it would be in better condition, but she still rocks out pretty hard
However I'm saving up for one of these bad boys:

Really tight faders for scratching, well put together, and the scratch live controllers built in with onboard fx are just sick so f***ing fun to play out -
Posted 16 years ago #it is pretty nice and basic. fav functiuon is the fader toggle and swap. it was like 150 few years ago. I would just make sur whatev you get has a nice loose X fader with bearings. Good luck
