The same day TGOS2 dropped (and having managed to snap up doubles from PL70) I also got me a copy of the Lifestyle Marketing 2LP from e-bay at a price i found shockingly reasonable! More shocking was that nobody else had got there before me; I'd been watching it for nearly a week and then couldn't help myself on that release day. I had the P fever and the only thing that could scratch it was more P related vinyl!

Lifestyle Marketing is very underrated anyway.And yeah, asking prices 10YOTO box set have gone through the roof. (I feel obligated to point out this shouldn't be misinterpreted as an accurate measure of "value" or "going rate: if it were, someone would have bought them already.)
Thes sold it to us at cost, so it was always great value for money, but it's just sad that out of a total of 150 sets of vinyl some still went to people who've never even touched them beyond ripping the mp3s and are now bragging about the records being unplayed. Shame on you, Daniel Martinez & Co.!! -

Posts: 362Posted 9 years ago #That damn box set. I missed it and have been keeping an eye out; there's one that's been sitting unsold for more than a year and the others at least 6 mos. They've started lowering their prices somewhat but it's still too high - I don't think it's sold for over $250ish since 2013.
Funny story - I opened a checking account earlier this year solely because the bonus offer was enough to cover what people are asking for the set. I'm sitting on the cash, though - it still feels sh!tty to pay that much since Thes sold it at cost and the money isn't going to him.

dirt - good job on getting a copy of Lifestyle. The vinyl version is in a great sleeve and has bonus intros of the original tunes that's not on the CD version!

Not listened to it on wax yet, but did post a pic on instagram!

The description on the back is interesting:
"The second in a series of EPs that outline their long journey to arrive at The Gettin Off Stage. Join the dup ad they resurrect for an encore after a very real run in with mortality."
Damn. After all the discussion and dissection, I'm still not sure if The P are ending soon for real or not?

Anyway - opened it up and my inner sleeve has a tear where the vinyl was sitting on it, but that's not a big deal (especially when it's travelled 4000+ miles to get to me)!
The first TGOS EP was a coloured swirl but nothing like this one - the colour is really awesome! The light catches it really well and it looks deep. Hard to convey in photos!
I looked on the run out groove for the funny comments normally etched in but there aren't any on this release (maybe because Redef did the pressing, Thes wasn't there to etch onto the master?)
The B side sticker has some of the text at all different angles which I thought was cool.
Put it on the turntable and it was pretty quiet at first. Thes did say he mastered it low and quality rather than loud and crunk. Turn the volume up and it hits hard. Bass is deep! Great sound quality... Maybe it's because my turntable is hooked up to speakers which fill the room, whereas most of the time I listen to mp3s on headphones, but damn I'm actually jealous now Teebs is listening to it at this quality first time round!! For example I could hear the sound at the start of Nightrunners was windscreen wipers which I didn't notice before.

I seem to recall Thes had different plans for the TGOS#1 though, had even experimented with custom mixed vinyl colors (I may be thinking of 12SP here, not sure), but then had to settle for the battleship grey at the last minute because of technical difficulties at the pressing plant..?Being a stickler for details when it comes to records I'm not sure "swirl" is the most accurate way of describing these beauties either. Most regular "swirl" records I've seen aren't this spiffy and have more of a smokelike effect where the different colors (especially translucent ones) kind of blend together from the different colored raw vinyl pellets being heated up together. I.e. black and white mixed together would get you kind of a stone/marble looking result. I think the separation effect we're seeing here is achieved by someone manually putting together (separately) pre-heated blobs of black and white and then placing the combined "puck" back into the pressing apparatus.
Can't be entirely sure about who did the design work for this release (yet), but I reckon there's a good chance it was Redef's go-to genius JoeBuck. Can't wait to see his P piece for the next (?) Piecelock/Redef release.
How tight is that heavyweight sleeve btw? As much as I appreciate that kind of deluxe packaging I've had issues with the thick foldout cover of my Highlighter LP for the longest time as it's so tight I can barely get the LPs in and out of the sleeve without ruining the printed inner sleeves. (Anyone else have this problem or has my sleeve "shrunk down" for some inexplicable reason..?)

I reckon the way they produce the color separation effect seen on TGOS#2 must be similar to how they "bread" the puck in different colored PVC pellets before placing it into the press to make the splattered vinyl in the 2nd vid.

The Highlighter tip-on thick cover is RIDICULOUS for trying to get the records and sleevs in/out intact. Thankfully this one is thick card, but not tight at all. No issues getting the record in or out!
