It's debateable if it is even rap... -
Posted 21 years ago #Egypt is crap. If that was all hip hop ever was I would be pumpin' in some other genre. A bunch of dudes with curls and sportscars from LA was not what it was all about to me at that time. Thats why I was in love with Beat Street and can definately do without the Egyptian Lover, LA Dream Team etc. That sh!t was crap. I didn't like it much then and I think its worse now. That's why alot of heads didn't respect LA until NWA came out, and maybe rigthfully so based offa that.
Doc... I don't care how newjack anyone on this site is, it dosen't matter to me. If they found their way here then it's a start. No matter how long YOU may have been into hip hop there is some dude with a whole lot of leather and feathers who thinks YOU are a newjack. Big up to all P heads out there even if Green Day is your other favorite group. The god complex is a bad look brotha, specially without a catalogue behind you.
oh yea.. f-the neptunes. Long live the Biz Mark! -

WORD Thes!
doc... You should get off your soapbox & use that soap for somethin' useful. Come to think of it, I guess you can't wash that decaying mind of yours. I guess you'll have to wash your balls instead, like the rest of us.

Posted 21 years ago #Not trying to be a dick seriously, but everyone knows how it is man.
Listen, if dude rolled up on hip hop dudes in real life and said " I used to say rap is crap, (laughs out loud) Now I like it. Help me find a rap name."
DUDE WOULD GET CLOWNED! Those are facts. But in message board land it is all good.
As far as the Egyptian lover sh!t goes, all that LA sh!t was good. From Toddy Tee & Mixmaster SPade, The world Class Wrecking Crew, etc.. Just part of that electro sound, that was well loved by b-boys. Its all good. My point wasnt to argue the relevance or dopeness of west coast electro though. My point was to say that, and I will say it below very clearly.
People who love hip hop, feel it, understand it, connect with it. And, I would say, 9 out of 10 times they feel it and connect with it the very FIRST time they hear it. They dont hear it for years, say it is crap, then suddenly understand, feel, and connect with hip hop.
That was my point.
And me callin out the "newjack" sh!t is because it seems you cant talk about any other hip hop other than the damn LA Underground around here. Lets take it back farther, lets talk some old sh!t man. Lets talk some mainstreet sh!t,dirty south, everything. Its all good.
Yo THes, Like I said, Im not trying to be a dick. We got similar friends (or friend rather), and I dont want to make sh!t awkward.
No, I have no catalogue behind me. So what, that sh!t doesnt matter at all. I know dudes with large catalogues that dont know sh!t about rap. I know dudes with NO catalogues that know insane amounts and have crazy records. It aint about catalogues man. I thought it was about the love right?
Oh yeah, and Im salty all the time.

You know I'm going to have to disagree. Just because at the time i had literally little to no exposure to any good hip-hop and was a 12 year old kid easily influenced by friends, does not mean that now i don't love hip-hop as much as you or whatever elitist bullshizzle you're trying to stroke your ego with.
Number 2: If i was influenced by my friends, i would be listening to punk and sh!t like that back then. No matter what I FELT RAP.
I'd probably be listening to some Dizee Rascal bollocks

Posted 21 years ago #haha i actually really like dizee rascal. i think his flow is ridiculous. to each is own i guess.

What the hell do you think message boards are for? Honestly? I mean, hey maybe they are for shooting the breeze, talking, asking questions when you don't have information or ideas. OH BUT NO, DOCBEEZY SAYS OTHERWISE, ALL HAIL.
In my small little world theres honestly 20 guys/girls who really know their stuff in my area. I asked some of them that question when i was getting into hip-hop, they didn't make fun of me, they welcomed me into their "clique" and showed me the ropes. They presented me with the information and let me decide my own way. BUT I GUESS YOU'RE RIGHT SO I'M WRONG.

Thes doesn't like it, and i think you're a straight up pompous a-hole, so i don't like that song. Mostly out of spite.
People who love hip hop, feel it, understand it, connect with it. And, I would say, 9 out of 10 times they feel it and connect with it the very FIRST time they hear it. They dont hear it for years, say it is crap, then suddenly understand, feel, and connect with hip hop.

Can you not read or something? I specifically said:
1. I didn't say "I thought rap is crap", i said: "I used to say: "Rap is crap". There is a difference between, think and say. The difference being that when you think something, you understand it to be true, but if you just say something you are just saying it to accomplish something. You don't necessairly believe it.
2. Frankly, i was 14, in a new neighborhood, and desperate for friends. Was what i did stupid? Yes. But thats part of growing up, finding that you don't need to be defined by music, sports, friends, and in part why i made this thread. You don't seem to understand that.
In case you missed ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ RE-READ UNTIL YOU UNDERSTAND OKAY???^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I'm not going to get into this as its not my place but:
Frankly, if you haven't heard an album, i think you have right to critique it. Period. I don't care if you are President of the United States, i will defend that position. So does it matter about "catalogue"? No, you don't necesserly need to own the stuff you haven't listened to, but you need to have heard it. Anyone can spew out what other critics say, but you need to listen/analyze it to say something about it.
Frankly i'm sick of your crap. Heres what i wanted out of this thread:
1. Find out why people name themselves odd things
2. Possibly (with a little help, or advice) find something for myself
3. Find out the meaning behind the P's names.
