It seems this is going to be a strong year for hip hop albums. So I was wondering what your top albums of the first six months are. I'd like to see what others have listened to that I may have missed. So far, my top three favorite albums are:
1. Beastie Boys - Hot Sauce Committee
2. Count Bass D & Insight - The Risk Takers
3. J. Rawls - The Hip Hop Affect

That's tough, there has already been so much good stuff this year. Even though numbered, the only one that's got an accurate spot is #1

Hmm, if I were to rank mine, it would go like this with the first two being close to a tie:
1. The Risk Takers
2. The Hip Hop Affect
3. Hot Sauce Committee
Wow Instru, I only recognize 4/10 on your list, but I see that it's not all hip hop so that's probably why.

Phill Most Chill - All cuts recorded raw. Not only the best LP of the first 6 months, it's the best LP of the decade so far (possibly the century!)
Runners up:
Action Bronson - Dr Lecter
Elzhi - Elmatic
I'd argue that 2011 has been poor so far for hip hop..

not too much notable hip hop this year except the Ghostpoet and Dels albums. Both great and similar in ways. Plus the madness that is the J-Rocc album! Fingers crossed for a Ghostpoet scoop at the Mercurys!
the SBTRKT album is dope, been a long time coming.
the big hitters James Blake and Jamie Woon both brought out their albums, with much hype - Blake got too hyped but to be honest the Jamie Woon LP is better. A really beautiful album.
also one of my favourite bands Rival Schools brought out a 10-years-late follow-up to their seminal debut... great stuff. Schreifels always kills it.

Got the album now, and I'd put it up on number one on my list for the first six months of 2011. Being that the century is still young, I gotta agree that it's definitely up there in ranking. This is super dope classic material that unfortunately is not getting the recognition it should get. If it had been released by one of the big record companies during the 80s or 90s, this would be talked about now as one of the classic albums.Regardless, it's a classic to me.
