DJ Vajra takes the title as the 2011 DMC World Champion!
I was just reading an interview about Vajra and he listed O.S.T. as one of his top 10 Hip Hop records of all time.
Check out some of his free mixes
Hopefully his winning routine is online to watch sometime soon. The DMC online championships were dope this year also, really good standard of turntablism. All the vids are on the DMC site. Ritchie Rufftone and Unkut both smashed it.
was at the UK BBoy Championships in Brixton last night... Crazy Legs represent! US beat UK in the solo final... but UK beat US in the team battle! France killed it though and won, top dog badboys!
The last trains from London leave at 23:30 so if I want to go to DMC or the B.Boy Champs I would miss the end (the results!) Bloomin' annoying, had to leave early when I saw the Beastie Boys in Brixton, nearly missed them saying "Droooooooooooooooooooooooooooop" lol.
And I don't really wanna drive to London!
Just gonna have to wait for the DVDs...
Ritchie Rufftone! That dudes been in the game time.
I've got an old Vestax open turntable tournament video, with Ritchie, DJ Skully, Tigerstyles, Mr Eclipse and more on,
These dudes work so hard for years and still get little recognition... although Ritchie must have won the UK Final so thats good for him
This is one of those threads that I wish I could join in on 'cause it sounds... BOSS!... but I have no clue who anyone is... is there a weblink to follow this?
Maaaaan I know how you feel after reading all the Highlighter threads!!
http://www.dmcworld.com/ - Ah check out the gold Technics... the prize.

You can usually find videos of the DJs on Youtube but the quality isn't great.
A lot of the DJs seem to keep it real underground, like no websites or anything.
So the best way to learn about them is to watch DVDs of battles etc.
But the DMC sites should have enough media for you to have a look at.
Peace.

I thought Steelio meant that Ritchie Ruftone was competing for the UK at the World final.. but it was JFB.
He was on about the video submissions I believe.
I did a little research and Ritchie hasn't won the UK final but he has won a few Battle for Supremacy (UK) and several ITF titles.
Hmm this reminds me I need to see if I can get the DMC 2002 World Final on DVD... only got it on VHS... so I'm missing the DJ Swamp extra!
Will have to check out some clips of the 2011 championship when they become available as I remember Vajra (Ice T clowned him as DJ Viagra once
) from a few years ago. Didn't he have to take a break from scratching/DJing due to a wrist injury like carpal tunnel or something..?
I recall liking Vajra's style because it was still based on using proper records and being funky as opposed to the super technical, custom/battle-record, DnB/techno-influenced stuff that was blowing up around that time. Stopped checking the competitions when guys like I-Emerge, Rafik etc. were big because I wasn't feeling any of that. Got most of the videos from the mid to late 90's up to the early 2000's though...
*edit* There's a set very close to the actual winning one up on youtube already. Some nice stuff in there like the bit with J5's Monkey Bars and his drumming but not quite as good as his '04 routine IMO (it's kinda hard to beat using Artifacts, Aceyalone & RJD2 in my book...)
I agree Twelve.
Early 2000s is where most of my vids and DVDs are from... I need to get all 3 finals where Craze wins tho. (98, 99 00?)
Yeah I'm not down with DJs cutting their own records... who knows what is on there.
The real skill is using records anyone can buy.
It pisses me off, a DJ will use like 2 custom cut records for over half their set... DUDE... I wanna see if you can actually change a record!
This is why I rate DJ Skully so highly.
He normally only uses records that have been released and he can change the record while scratching on the other deck!
And yeah that shits got to be funky like DJ Dopey... but he still has mad skillz.
I went to the 2006 DMC World Final where Rafik won and I still dont like his set... DJ Wunderkut from Canada was funky that year. The only real good thing from 2006 was the Summit II where Cutmaster Swift, DJ Dopey, DJ Noise, DJ Craze and DJ Kentaro etc each did a little routine then they all joined together for a jam with Killa Kela (UK Beat Boxer) providing the drums.
I was stood so close to Craze when he did his little showcase with the mad Pioneer mixer (Pioneer DJM909 http://www.decks.co.uk/products/pioneer/djm909 ) he is crazy lol.
Hmm might have to go home at lunch and get a mix on
DJ LIGONE's performance....
