No, this isn't a bullsh*t MySpace quiz where you get a picture and a synopsis when you're finished (like "What breakfast cereal are you?!" or something). This is a no frills, no wavering, simple set of questions to show us what kind of P fan you are. Backpacker or experimenter? Conservative hip-hopper or genre-bender?

Rate the P albums, 1 thru 8 on the following categories (1=the "best", 8=the "worst")... but first, the rules:
- No albums can be "TIED" with each other... I mean it, you HAVE to rank everything 1 thru 8. No ".5"s either.
- Your post is about your rankings, not other people's. Each post in this thread should be an expression of you, not an opinion of someone else. We can start another thread if you wanna talk sh*t. I just want to see where you're each coming from. This is an inventory for the forum members. Nothing but respect.

Comments: I'm all about the Stepfather experience, but OST gives it a run for it's money. Loving the way Thes blended Ethan and Kat's stuff on the new album though. I was tempted to put Highlighter up top, but then I remembered The Brownout.

Comments: "All Good Things" is my favorite Thes rap, I think... but judging the rest after Carried Away was probably the hardest thing I'll have to do today. Thes is consistent as h*ll, but I think he's really gotten better with time.

Comments: Highlighter blows all the rest away. It's not just the 24-bit HD-AAC thing, either. Even if it didn't have that, Thes' new studio and sound mixing sounds beyond amazing. *applause*

Comments: It was hard seeing Highlighter at a 4, but the ONLY reason that I'm like that right now is that I'm hesitant to give anything top marks that doesn't have staying power, and it's JUST TOO EARLY for me to know if Highlighter has staying power. Expect that 4 to turn into a 3, 2 or 1 if I'm still bumping it a year or two from now... which I highly expect to happen. Last comment: even though The Next Step comes in low on everything, I still think PUTS' low is higher than most of the cats on the "Overrated albums" thread's big list that everyone's rating right now.

Bonus question: If you could see one PUTS album played live, front-to-back, which one would it be: Right now, it's ALMOST a toss-up between "O.S.T." and Highlighter... but if it's a photo finish... "O.S.T" wins by the part that's hanging loose. haha.

Good point. I updated the OP to include that info... but yeah, 1 is the "best" and 8 is the "worst" (does the P even have a "worst" though? )

oooh, this will be tough. i may have to re-listen to each album before posting. especially since you're differentiating between rhymes, beats/samples and production. that's tough

PUTS albums are like Hattori Hanzo swords; you can compare them to any other sword in the world, except a Hattori Hanzo.

Comments: Its painful to put the early albums in the back, because they're some of my favorites regardless of how they rank. Fun DMC is my favorite for samples because of the party they sampled, and just the way the album flows the samples really tie the album together.

Comments: I restrained myself from placing The Next Step as my favorite because even though Ten Tough Guys blows me away, overall O.S.T. gets top spot because of how much emotion they poured into it. Lyrically Thes continues to get better regardless if he started on top. Another honorable mention I must give to Thes is for his his first rap in the Funner than Leather mix tape, after the short intro. He straight kills it, and if this were just a list of our favorite Thes raps it would be hard to rate it against Ten Tough Guys for me.

Comments: This seriously gets harder every time I go through the list. Doubles lyrics tend to be centered around either his awesome party exploits like Enjoy or Tales of Kidd Drunkadelic, to super personal songs like Days Like These. I can't pick between these two styles, but I think both Double and Thes killed it on O.S.T. lyrically, so I'm putting O.S.T. on top of this one.

Comments: Of course Highlighter is going to take top spot here. The more I listen to Highlighter the more I hear, and theres just such an amazing attention to detail on this album that Thes just took to an entirely new level on this album.

Comments: Heres the real kicker. Highlighter is all I can play right now, but thats the way its been every time the P drop new beats, however I think Highlighter is going to continue to blow me away for quite awhile. I made this list on how I would advise someone to listen to the P if they were to just now get into them and they refused to listen to them in chronological order for some reason. This list was truly the hardest.The albums near the end still get bumped as often as the rest (when I'm not listening to highlighter that is)

Bonus question: If you could see one PUTS album played live, front-to-back, which one would it be: Fun DMC. I would really enjoy seeing a concept album performance of this concert the way Thes explained in the sidebar interview. That would be hilarious!
(edit: Thes explained Fun DMC as a concept album as a typical day with a party where everyone ends up drunk and reminiscing. I think this would make a great stage performance, though Thes didn't propose this idea in the sidebar interview, my post just makes it sound like that :p )

Sac man, you are relentless...you really do live and breath the P...nice one!

That said, I couldn't even consider comparing Highlighter to the others until I've listened to it a few times on vinyl.
And even then...surely they all sound different what mood you're in...how much you've had to drink...etc...

This one is tough. Eso is right about having to listen to all the albums. I can already sense the inner-conflict within me building up. I've got a pile of school assignments for this week; I'll add this one to the list and eventually get to it.

Oh gosh. I really suck at these since I like to listen different things in different occasions and consider each LP as a product of its time and context. BUT there are some releases I have listened more than the others and maybe I am able to do this after some thinking and tanking. Yes, this is tough.
