So, ive been thinking of getting into photography for a little while and ive started doing some research and im now more confused than when i started.... Any photography heads on here???

Heres the dilemma: I have a limited budget of of around £250, now thats a fair whack of money for me yet it doesnt even scratch the surface of you entry level DLSR cameras, even 2nd hand these things are pricey!!!! Also, after forking out some big bucks on a DLSR, i then need to buy lenses for every possible scenario which it appears can cost more than the bloody camera, BUT i really would l,ike to take some nice photos of the world around me but for a far more reasonable price, has anyone got any thoughts or ideas???

Ive seen these micro four thirds cameras around and the cheapest i could find one for was £250, an olympus EPL1...

Ideally, i think i need an entry level point and shoot to start but then i could build on it???

Any help would be appreciated!

If you're just starting out, go out and find a brand whose set up works best for you. My preference is Nikon, I find they aren't as bulky as Canon and have less buttons than Sony cameras.
These cameras are just now starting to become popular, and I would love to try one out. If you want to be able to get serious with your camera while still being able to start out with a point and shoot style, I would totally recommend this kind of camera. I know Nikons mirror less slr has an adapter that will allow you to use their entire line of lenses.

What style nikon would you recommend Jappy? Theres a big old range of em out there and the more i research, the less i know (Isame as everything, lol) Im seeing people reccomend super zoom (21X) point and shoots as a step up from your average digital camera and not as expensive as DSLR! Of course, if i really get into it i want to take it further, are there any point and shoots which give me more control or are they all auto?

if you're not a photographer don't get a DSLR - it's complete overkill if you're just snapping. The panasonic Lumix range always seem good when I've used em (nice wide angle Leica lenses helps). That camera you linked to or the Olympus Pen series look nice, again would love to try one too!

Or, get one of these

Ok, not for you if you want to become a professional - but you never know exactly what you're getting until the film has been processed...and they really do produce some classic shots.

I personally shoot with a a Diana F+ with an instant back, its my favorite! For digital I use a nikon d5000, a DSLR. However, for my photo class, i recently picked up a nikon n90s from ebay for pretty cheap. Both of the nikons are excellent cameras, but they're not exactly for someone just starting.
If Lomo cameras interest you I would totally recommend to anyone to find one that suits you, because they can be a lot of fun! I picked up an original 1970's USSR Lomo for not too much money online either, and it has been great to shoot with as well.

I wouldn't recommend a DSLR yet, however the mirror less SLRs like the one you first posted would allow you to have more control than a traditional point and shoot and allows you to change lenses in the future, a feature that had usually been just for DSLRs. Go and try a few of them out, I know that sony and nikon both have mirror less SLRs, or micro four thirds, the name of the technology depends on the brand I suppose. I know that the nikon line has an adapter ring that will allow you to use their complete line of lenses.

Cheers guys, let the research begin!!!! Gonna go to a few camera shops and get in touch with a few people in university big on photography, see if i can have a "play" with their gear! lol.
