Posts: 94Posted 14 years ago #AWESOME SHOW. The El Rey is seriously a legit venue. I got there around 5 minutes after Luckyiam started, and he was pretty good. Always glad to see any of the dudes from Living Legends perform. Afterwards it was a badass dj that Thes came out an introduced who played some funky old school sh!t. There were dudes breaking in the crowd, it was awesome and the vibe was hella positive and fun.
Thes and Double came out and did the Mario 2 intro. Thes also talked a whole bunch of sh!t about how f***ed up the world is when Drake has the number one selling album out... hahaha. Lotsa shoutouts to the Occupy movement. And of course, TONS of love for LA. The crowd was SUPER pumped the entire time.
They did all the classics plus some of their new sh!t like Selfish Destruction, Can't Hold It Back (YESSSSSSSSS!) Too Much Birthday, and The Second Track. Oh sh!t, I almost forgot, but they did a dope remix of OST over a Michael Jackson song (I think? I was pretty messed up at this point so it's kinda hard to remember... anyone else there can confirm?) They also did Hang Loose Pt 2 as the encore and brought out their ENTIRE posse on stage. It was dope.
I caught up with Spelunk/Brendan at the merch booth right before the show and got a badass shirt. I dragged along my friend who's main exposure to rap is Drake/Weezy/TI/etc and he LOVED it. He got a shirt and a CD also. And my other homie scored the last of the girls' WRLA tee... made spelunk dig for it lol.
Sadly didn't get to talk to Thes or Double cuz they were really trying to clear people out ASAP, but I did get to say whassup to Luckiam as we ate bacon wrapped hot dogs outside after the show... awesome.
Sorry that my review is hella lame, I blame booze and weed making my sh!t all hazy... also nothing can compare to Sactown's epic show reviews haha
Edit: Oh yeah, best part was when Double was like "If you have drugs, DO 'EM NOW!" and they launched straight into Empty Bottles of Water. Mad clouds of smoke drifting over the crowd during that song... :D

The show was definitely LA! What can u say? But the sad thing is....
I know for a fact other venues were louder and hyped. Like LA has got this sh!t all wierd. We're all too damn spoiled and not appreciative o anything!!! And all we do is complain. Real talk. But we still give
It up for the P. I'm sure Brendan can say that there were other places that go bananas.

Posts: 94Posted 14 years ago #Holy sh!t I can't believe I almost forgot about Eddum Chibbum, complete with intro and costume. My friend (who doesn't listen to PUTS) leaned over when they were doing Cookie's Theme and he was like "What the f*** is this?!"
And then right after Double finished the song, he said "If y'all didn't get Highlighter, you probably are thinking what the f*** was that..." and me and my friend just bust up laughing.

I went with my friend AC the PD, so since he knows Double K and the rest of the crew, I spent some time with them so I didn't really see much of any of the opening acts. I did walk in every now and then to catch a little something on some artists. Got to see Revolutionary Rhythm do a couple of songs and they were rocking it. I did notice more girls at this show than at the 10 year anniversary show, must have been cause of Eddum Chibbum. Got to meet Jazmak and Blewfoot and they're both classy, and Blewfoot is one super cool cat. I also bumped into 2Mex early on and he started talking to me about a new joint he's opening up this Friday in La Brea called the Enhale; he describes it as a "hip-hop speak easy." Chikaramanga was also wandering around and opened up the show 'trippin at the disco' style. So here are some pictures I took. I also took video, but they're taking forever to process on youtube, so I'll post those tomorrow cause it's past my bedtime.
Most of the pictures are from the 'Hang Loose' performance...

I wanted to take more video but my sd card got full and I actually had to delete some other photos I had on there to create more space. Pardon the quality, but all I have is a point-and-shoot camera. By the way, the crowd WAS hyped and loud.
