i just wanted to say, not only did the beastie boys get me into rap, they also got me listening to a lot of punk/hardcore as well. after hearing songs like "heart attack man" and all the stuff on aglio y olio, i started listening to the ramones, bad brains, and other sh!t like minor threat. those dudes were seriously hella diversely talented. i really liked their instumental funk album they did too...
Adam Yauch (MCA) of the Beastie Boys passes away.....sucks...

Posts: 94Posted 14 years ago #yep they started off in NY in the late 70s/early 80s playing CBGBs and sh!t. they made their first rap song ("cooky puss") as a joke in 1983 if i understand right. the original hiphop pranksters haha

Really kinda hung myself out there to see if it could be done and if I could do it and tonight was my night to cap it off. I knew it when I got up this morning. I was pumped. Then I got the word. MCA. Out. I immediately put Paul's boutique on. I kinda phased out for I while while contemplating my own mortality.

"f*** this," I said. I'm getting busy on my project. I grabbed my iPod and headed to the shop. Head down workin. Gettin that sh!t done and doin it right. No half steppin. All the while the Beastie Boys bumpin on the old Cerwin Vegas. Inspiring me. Making me feel good about it.I sat back with a fresh beer to admire this stupid project and it all kinda hit at once. What would this world be without those that inspire us? Time for a Toast.
To MCA! Well hell, to all those that get in there with their hands and create what they see or feel or hear in their heart and then put it out there for the people. That's the true definition of an artist. It's the stuff of inspiration. Without them, what's the point? This world was better because of MCA. He will be missed. Cheers.

If it wasn't for the Beastie Boys I dont know what my life would be like.
My biggest love is scratching... I wouldn't be doing that today if it wasn't for artists like the Beastie Boys.I only found out the other day we share the same birthday, he turned 21 the day I was born.
Still so gutted... feel like I might burst into tears next time I play Brass Monkey out.
