Ordered this on the 20th from the UK and it arrived this morning!
Package is great - raised a few eyebrows in the office when I opened up the package to find the box sealed with images of dildo's and cock pumps!
Will check out the record when I get home..

I love Einstein & Blewfoot and the expressions on their faces at the beginning... some nice cutting up later on.

Yup, that video is awesome and at times hysterical. I will be ordering my copy in the wee hours of Friday morning after my paycheck hits. I've been wanting a new book to read and the extras that come with the book make it too cool to pass up......(the 45rpm that comes with this will be up on discogs and ebay in the future for more money than the whole package costs I have no doubt, since its a limited pressing). Seems like a funny and slightly disturbing account of what it was like working at a porn store before the internet......looking forward to reading it.....g

Alright, it's 1 a.m. and I've gotta work tomorrow, so I'm stopping for tonight, but I've already made it to page 90 (out of 230-something).
The book itself (which, frankly, should probably get talked about and/or be a focus of this thread) is a d*mn good read so far. While it's filled with the funny and gross sh*t that you'd probably expect from watching that video, he's actually doing a great job at holding my interest, and the description he puts into each place he visits (and the flashbacks to the pre-store days) is just right: it puts you there and gives you the essentials, but lets you fill in the blanks (although the more... "vibrant" parts of the book leave little to the imagination).
When I read about The Screamer (you'll find out), I almost sh*t my pants laughing.
I still have the majority left to read, but I could barely put it down to write this and them go to bed.
I'm not just saying this because it's affiliated with PL70 and Thes: buy this sh*t. It is WAY worth the money spent. I wanna see them make a movie out of this... It'd be like a twisted High Fidelity or something.

Gonna cross my fingers and hope theres still copies in september, coz im low on cash till then (us students always are) and gonna cop sum merch when they tour so PL70 and PUTS will be getting a nice chunk of cash off me soon. lol.
Video is dope tho and the book looks like a good read... In this age of 50 shades of sh!t, this book looks like the perfect cure!

Just finished the book last night.
As played out and cliched as this word currently is, it still fits here: the ending was 'epic'. I'm no literary critic or analyst, but I think Simpson does a really good job of NOT making The Mop just a series of intercut stories. There's definitely an underlying thread that builds and it ends with a 'resolution'. I really enjoyed it, and I hope Simpson keeps writing more novels.
I still say it would make a hilarious & boundary-pushing piece of cinema. I'd wanna be in it just to play one of the crazy-*ss people he meets. Maybe Dave.

It’s seems like yesterday when I sent an anonymous person a PM on the Soulstrut forum.
This NZShadow guy had written a series of highly entertaining posts about working in a porn shop. Along with everyone else, I felt the stories worthy of release in a more formal fashion. The 3 years that followed were a blur of hundreds of emails, book drafts and all sorts of ups and downs, but one thing remained, I truly believed in the book and in Alan’s talent as a writer. And honestly I am sure he was annoyed with me as I juggled things attempting to get the site ready for this release. I made a few miscalculations and misplaced a little trust, but PL70 is better for it. Through it all, I didn’t want to let him down – It is, after all, his life story we’re dealing with. Now that the dust has settled, the book emerges in beautiful (animal friendly) leather with gold stamping. Better yet, it’s limited edition release comes in a box set swathed in all sorts of random vintage porn and bundled with a promotional 45 written and played by yours truly. It’s handmade in America, printed in a family-run Midwest print house on beautiful stock.
Most importantly, it’s a really good read. It’s an awesome book. It may sound cliche, but it truly is laugh out loud funny and exposes a world most of us will never set foot in (I can only hope) – one where bodily fluids spilling everywhere are the least of one’s worries. I gave a copy of the book to my good friend Pete Lyman and he texted me back the following night: “Read the mop last night. Good read! Funny as hell! How much of that stuff is true?” I suppose that is a fair question and one you will (if you are fortunate enough to read this book) ask as well. I asked Alan the same thing but I already knew the answer. His approach towards the subjects, the detail in which he describes the locations and the humor he finds in it all are not something you can make up; they are surely the coping mechanism one develops from being plunged deep into a perverted world where ji**hunts occur, where DADDY prowls and where Gay Disco Heaven is a respite. In short, you can’t make this stuff up. And fortunately for us, Alan took the time to write down his experience in vivid detail.
Of all the praise this book has already received in the short time it’s been out, the best thing I read has come from Justin Torres, a legendary dude amongst dudes in the bay area:
“it’s really a phenomenal book. im 60pgs in and tripping. its soooo funny. its not even just about his experiences at the shop. its him. his life. who he was… showing who he is. music comments, drug references, and the like i can relate to… to a point. its also a great visual on what the area out there was like at that time. i have never been overseas but through the words i feel like im living it too.
anyway… i love this book.”
I do too, and I’m honored to be a part of helping it become real. Here’s to you, Alan.
