Posts: 91Posted 20 years ago #nobodys comparing it to undergroung, i know he does what he does, all i said in the original post was that its not a good representation of what hip hop really is. i saw a lord finess show 2 months ago and that was real hip hop right there, 50 cent would not be able to bring that. -

ok, so you just compared it to underground stuff. Yes, lord finesse is now underground.

I guess wat doc is gettin at is the whole categorizing issue. it gets alil annoyin when dudes say things like "this isnt real hiphop. it has too much jewlery and violence." ..Since real hiphop is only confined to tribe and UD... but yeah the bottom line for me is that 50's music is really lame. i liked many men and how to rob and thats about it.. -

Posts: 91Posted 20 years ago #i never said lord finess was underground. in my view "underground" means struggling artist, no lable,rocking open mic circuits, mixtapes, distributing their own music. thats the underground scene.
from here you progresst to a lable or set up your own,have full creative rights to your work and still being relesed to the mainstream market, get more exposure and live shows. 50's "power of the dollar" and the other one is a good example of how you start of my making what is true to yourself, and the when you see the potential to expand by changing that direction for fame and fortune, thats when you lose the ideal and beginning of where you started off.
mainstream is the tv and film side of things. the music is gloryfied and presented with bells on, so to speak.its turned into a buissiness, marketing your identity with music and merchandise, and movies. making much profit.
i know a lot of bands that sell tshirts,posters etc but thats the difference between independent and franchise.
i got a few of 50's e.ps and power of the dollar, way before "get rich, die trying" and all im saying (back to my original post) is that when you here what is was like before, and the you get "window shopper", there is just no reson behind it other than fame, money and bitches. if biggie was here today i wonder what he would think of 50 cent?
i lived with 5 other guys in a student house, they said they liked hip hop, but when it came down to it what they had was Em, 50, the game, g-unit etc.
when i gave them a selection of hip hop to listen to like Nas,puts,public enemy,dilated peoples, cypress hill or 3rd bass, they just wernt interested and when back 50 and the rest because i had to much hip hop and so many different stuff that they didnt want to know. it seemed easyer for them to just watch tv, listen to cds cos its easyer that finding good hip hop acts and who they are.
if it werent for local djs in my city, i recon i could have easily fallen into this trap.but i spent the time listening to them, finding out what records they playing and then getting hold of it my own way.
i wont be posting any more on this now

Posts: 3,618Posted 20 years ago #someone said to me the other day that they didn't like the commerical hip hop and that they knew there was some real fresh stuff that was 'underground' but that he couldn't be arsed to go and find it. that's just sad
(as for 'underground' it is a weird term really, non-mainstream would probably be better but then mainstream or commercial are also pretty wack terms :-? ) -

I see lord finnesse as underground becuase he doesnt get spins on commercial radio or in the clubs . -

Take Dilated(because they were mention)
The platform was f**king raw as hell..fresh beats..fresh rhymes...and Babu's crazy legato skratching is dope(the og turntablist). But you listen to Neighborhood watch and you kinda see how it's changed..
Even more so..its' the labels fault...don't you all know that the label is the bottom line on what gets released? Even so though 50, to me, isn't an artist, because he doesn't really do it "artfully"(is that a word?), he's more like a professional hack with an interest in hiphop music...but really his goals are money and power..Dood is slippin though...I can see him fading from the spot light just like Puffy did...
Who's next to claim the thrown? I can only pray it's someone with a decent flow and some non-bloopy-blippy beats. -

Heh, yeah well.
Next to claim the throne? From NY? or in General?
I think it will be someone from the south. Maybe Young Jeezy if he brings up a strong enough crew.

Posts: 291Posted 20 years ago #young jeezy is more boring than the Game. the south is huge now, its already taken over. paul wall and the camp are pretty dope. lil wayne is ill nowadays too- most improved rapper for sure... but on the side note, that stay fly track by 36Mafia is bangin. -
