Okay, here's the score, I'm a big big fan of Gil Scott-Heron and I'm missing four of his albums with Brian Jackson (Real Eyes, 1980, Secrets & Bridges). I want to get them on CD if possible. Japanese versions pop up occasionally on ebay but the bidding goes nuts. Real Eyes on cd went for $521 dollars last year!!!
Anyway, I'm thinking that these must be out there somewhere in Japan for them to keep re-appearing but I don't don't where to start looking and my Japanese isn't up to much and I doubt I'll be able to afford to get over there any time soon. Anyone got any tips on ordering from Japan online, any good sites that cover soul, jazz, funk, hip-hop, blues etc? How to translate the pages? Any good search engines?
Any tips would be much appreciated!
Oh and are there any other Gil fans out there? Apparently Brother was arrested again in December and is looking at another stretch, they're talking 5-10 years. sh!t made me cry. Man needs help not f***ing prison. He had disappeared and had been living in a crack-den for months. It's a sad sad story, the man is a true legend.

Posted 20 years ago #you could try http://www.hmv.co.jp/?lang=en
you can check it all in english as well as Japanese. Only problem is the shipping costs loads (as expected though) but even worse you will get done by customs when you receive them because they use Fed Ex.
depends if you think it's worth it -

Posted 20 years ago #i guess you can try http://www.altavista.com if you havn't tried that already, but thats all the help i can give you man haha sorry.
but worrdd, i'm a fan of gil for sure! i made a post about him over in the jurassic5.com boards a couple weeks back, and i was the only cat whos heard of him! i thought that was pretty suprising. i was seeing if anyone had the "racetrack in france" song on CD or in MP3, beacuse i only have it on cassette, and was trying to put it on CD for myself. but yeah, i was pretty bummed when i heard he got locked up again. it's always so sad to see someone so great go downhill like that. anyways, best of luck in your searches! and keep rockin that good stuff!

I think 'Racetrack In France' is on that Gil/Brian Jackson Anthology cd that dropped just before christmas. You will probably have every other track on there though!!
