New to the Blog.... A question to the masses.... and I apologize if it belongs in a hip hop 101 class but I'm not too up on my drum machine sounds. Which machine/ sounds are characteristicly on a lot of the PUTS recordings ie) Acid Raindrops and The Breakdown. I was wondering where I could get em. .....

Posts: 10Posted 20 years ago #The beats sound like they are machine beats cause they are incredibly sharp and heavy on attack and they just sound like a machine. If they are cut from record, processed, and EQed then hats off to em cause that sh!t is like Jedi production. -

This is something I can no longer live without knowing!!! What do you do to those drums!!! They are obviously squashed and sound fat but where and how do you do it????
I need that secret formula, there are untold samples out there that need those beats on em......

Posts: 15Posted 20 years ago #Just checked the remix mag article, tight, was just listening to Plunken 'Em and thinking what a great track it was, hey, whats up with this Subharmonic Synth sh!t?! is this a wideley used piece? whats the real diff between running audio thru that and say a res filter? does it drop the octave and keep the original pitch? I'm intrigued....would you use this as well as a 'normal' bassline, like a sub reinforcment typa thing? so many questions.... -

I am not too sure about alot of their techniques maybe Thes should have us round for dinner and then spend the evening explaining it to us. I am interested because they had a real bass player play on The Breakdown...thats the only track as far as i know, the rest of the tracks must have subharmonic sh!t going on.

Posts: 180Posted 20 years ago #yea thes does make dope drums, the thing is that it sounds so much to real to the untrained ear, even i hear his beats and it sounds live or straight looped but if you listen close you can tell he puts his time into his drums. To me DRUM and BASS are on the top of the list when makign a beat, i mean if you have a dope sample and weak drums, you aint going to bop your head. just like "scratch" the one and only lee perry made sure his sh!t had dope drum and bass. its a must. i saw thes walking when i was visiting my fam in LA. My cuzins homie was like "theres thes" and when i turned and looked we drove by and was to far to yell something to him.
the PUTS DVD will have something about making a beat so wait for that and DONT BOOTLEG!!!!!!!!! give thes and double their 7.50 for stepfather so they can eat!!!!!!!!! and pay their bills!!!!!!!!!!
